Nutshell, is right
Quote:
I have the Australia WSM for the car, it gives no details on this. Not surprising really, as the 4WS version was only ever sold in Japan. If anyone has these figures, it will be Phil, he'll chime in if he has them. My gut feeling is they are probably exactly the same. The only one that might be different is maybe the rear wheel camber, but I'd still expect it to be the same. If your new tyres are wearing on the outsides, your front wheels are toe'd in too much. Bring the car to a 4 wheel laser alignment bloke, get it done properly. Joe

i want iwant
what are the implications of getting 4ws into a US spec car? obviously getting all the parts, such as the mitsubishi actuators and what not, as well as the ecu... but from the accounts i have read here, i feel like making it work would be worth the thousands it would probably cost.,.. perhaps even aquiring a 4ws rhd car, and taking the goodies... damn subaru for not shipping this to us dumb americans |

Personal preference really. A lot of a Nissan owners will go out of their way to disable the HICAS system on their cars. 4WS really went away after the mid-90's: added complexity + cost for minimal benefits.
Prelude, MX6 & RX7, 240SXSE & 300ZXTT, Celica GT-R, Skyline GT-R, 3000GT VR-4... All mid-90's sports coupes, All did away with the system. SOME newer vehicles, mostly full-size trucks, use passive systems or quadrasteer as a parking/towing aid, but its an option most people don't want.

Yes

I'll check your thread. Laser align only checks how the wheels line up when STATIC. As you no doubt know. There is movement in some of the suspension components that is allowing the tyre and wheel be dragged outwards by the traction at the road surface. If it is bad, then it is likely you have a few mm of unwanted movement, and the bushes are the likely culprit. Maybe Beav would have an idea from experience? Joe

read the first page of the item description, this chap is claiming to have the rare passive all wheel steering on his LHD car... I suggest detaining the car for further interogation

The rear suspension of ALL SVXs has passive rear steer. What is rare is the '91-'92 only JDM version L, which had active rear wheel steer. Nice seats. Joe

Rear wheel steering in New Zealand - called AWS
member NUTSHL has AWS on his baby & I beleive that TREVOR has a full set of manuals for RHD that includes AWS information.
from the far south (well New Zealand at least!) |

I think it was Nutshell who started this thread, so yes, he has the system.
To the best of my knowledge Trevor does not have a full set of manuals with information on the active 4WS version. If he does have it, he's been keeping it quiet. What he may have is this translation from the Japanese of the Subaru description from the Japanese Owner's Manual : http://www.geocities.com/jamsvx/trans4ws.html I am lucky to have the full set of Australian manuals myself, and there is no treatment of the active AWS components, because that variant was never destined for export to English speaking markets.
