Re: Techy's engine pull progress thread

EDIT: Moved all of these questions to a technical thread.

It appears that that Trans. code is back. I'm not sure why it stopped for a while then came back... but oh well. Again, it's a Code 22 "Atmospheric Sensor"

Here's a video that was requested on my local forum.

Re: Techy's engine pull progress thread

wow, now that's different....it's like the engine is going "I won't let you go over 3k rpms!" The car is definitely in "limp home" mode. What year SVX do you have again? I've heard of non-SVX subies going into limp home mode when their egt sensor gets messed up. You might also want to check the MAF and harness for the MAF. Only the most serious of "codes" will cause the car to go into "limp home" mode.

Re: Techy's engine pull progress thread

I am seeing a lackof communication to and from the ECU. The baro sensor is internal to the ECU and considering the tacho and reving issues... I can say there is def. a problem to be had w/ grounding somewhere. I'd start with the gnd on the back apss side of the intake manifold

Re: Techy's engine pull progress thread

I think it's fixed

I win the dumbass of the year award though...

I said I checked that ground location, which I did, but only visually. It looked nice and tight. If I had pulled my head out of my ass and actually tightened it I would have noticed that it was just a tiny bit loose. Tightened the bolt, pulled the neg battery cable to reset things, put it back on and she fired right up.

Lesson learned, trust the Toms *hangs head in humble shame*

It also explains the speedo error since that is the ground location for the speed sensor.

Here are a few pictures of things shined up a bit. There's a lot more detailing that can/will possibly be done, but for now:

Re: Techy's engine pull progress thread

I am just glad to hear that you got it resolved. Nothing is worse than the feeling that you total F'ed something up. It must be a big relief, and the engine looks great.

Re: Techy's engine pull progress thread

I think this might just be the motor mounts, but when I'm sitting at idle I can feel (and barely hear) something making a very faint thump-thump-thump, it sounds like it's twice every revolution?

On a positive note, my cruise control is working again. I replaced the switch in the steering wheel so that may have done it, or something else I did. I didn't take the systematic approach to that, just replaced the switch while I was doing everything else.

The cruise went out a few months ago, and was not because of this engine pull.

It was broken when I got the car, seized compressor, and the box inside the cabin was filled with debris. So I just pulled it all.

Re: Techy's engine pull progress thread

VERY nice thread indeed, thanks for the picumentation (word?)

I know it's been a few months since the engine went back in but I'm about to start this project and had some questions, if I may.

- what is your garage ceiling height? I need to make sure that mine is tall enough to be able to pull the engine out inside the garage.

-did you have to do much work under the vehicle or did all work take place in the engine bay.

-did you eliminate the EGR system due to the broken exhaust manifold piece or was it for some other reason? Is the ECU not smart enough to know the deletion of the EGR, I'm assuming not, otherwise a CEL would be thrown.

-how easy was the access to the torque converter to fly wheel bolts? Where and how did you access this?

-were you able to use bulk hose from the local auto part store (1/8", 3/32", 3/16") or did you have to purchase metric hoses from oem?

-I assume you used WRX motor mounts?

-Do you recall which vendors you purchased your items from? Timing belt came from Ebay, how about hoses, motor mounts, etc?

My apologies if you mentioned these answers in your thread and I didn't see it or understand it.

Thanks.
