I'm glad people are liking the pictures. I'll keep them coming for sure.

I've got a ton more for the writeup, but it would be obscene to try and post them all in here (over 150 so far)

Techy, thanks so much for posting all the pics. Couple of questions:

What cleaning products are you using to remove all the dirt and grime?

If you are planning to break down the cylinder head, what tool are you anticipating to use to remove the piston ring clips and piston pins?

Thanks, Chris

No problem with the pics.

I'm using Gunk engine brite, Purple Power, and Seafoam for cleaning products. I'm also using steel, brass, and nylon brushes of various sizes.

I was thinking about breaking down the block even farther, but now I'm thinking not. I'm already way over budget and without someone who has done that before helping I think it would be a potential disaster.

Re: Techy's engine pull progress thread

Good work. I went through the same process for my Claret, except that many of the parts went to powdercoating. Now, Im just waiting for them to return so that assembly will be a reality.

Re: Techy's engine pull progress thread

very nice pics.

i recently did this, but i was doing it in the mudpit that you had to endure in picknpull

the hardest part for me was figuring out how the 2002 wrx clutch connected... other than that the eg33 is straightforward.... soooooo much easier than hondas and toyotas i have worked on.

with all the proper tools, lifts, and a garage, i would dare say that looks like fun!

my mounts looked like that too... my new motor had nice stock mounts tho, but i opted for the group n mounts.

if you are looking for a set of nice stock motor mounts, i am selling some right herrr

good luck ! i know you will enjoy the spoils spoils of your victory

Re: Techy's engine pull progress thread

Today was another slow day. Did some cleaning of the timing belt covers, got the damn cranks sprocket off, pulled the oil pump, did some cleaning, put it back on with a new o-ring and front main seal.

Also did some grinding of one of the motor mounts.

To get the crank sprocket off I had to tap the two holes in it and use a steering wheel puller. And after a lot of cleaning it went back on without any trouble whatsoever.

Anyway, here are pictures:

It was pretty rusty

Re: Techy's engine pull progress thread

Here's what I was up to today.

I think I finished up the motor mounts today. I spent most of the day cleaning up the block and heads though. My new head gaskets and other stuff are supposed to be coming in tomorrow (hopefully they'll actually come in on time).

Here are today's pictures

Finished motor mounts:

Here are some pictures of before and after cleaning of the heads and block.

Re: Techy's engine pull progress thread

what have you decided to do with the heads? Are you going to have them checked to make sure that they're perfectly flat?

I have decided to take the gamble and just put them back on. We'll see if it was the wrong choice soon enough.

Here are a few more pics. I may be doing more tonight, not sure yet. But I figured I'd toss up a few teasers from todays work.
