I like the look of them, but am sure I would hit my head every day on them. Not to mention where the water would drip when the doors are opened.
Whose car is that in the pics john?

Good lord those fog lights on that Laguna are atrocious.

I really like the doors on both cars though - it seems to fit the SVX's style. Now if only I could justify spending $1k on a "kit" that comes with some metal brackets and a shock absorber...

Gullwings can't be done, especially not on an SVX. Doing it on any car is HARD, if even do-able - the amount of structural integrity needed is enormous, and everything down to the shape of the door itself on the DeLorean was made around those Gullwings. (Same with the old Benz... 300SL was it?)

I REALLY like those butterflies, but I bet we couldnt do that either with leaving our windows the way they are. Glass is the enemy in an exercise such as this, and we have ALOT of it. BUT, I bet if you swapped out the "top" glass piece for some reinforced metals, you could pull it off... (along with lots of other modifications too)

Nate, people already link the SVX to the DeLorean because of the window in window design. Let's not make it any worse, eh?

Marissa's pictures are interesting.

A turkey and an eagle.

The DeLorean was the triumph of imagination and egotism over engineering. It sucked, big time. Too heavy, too ugly, saloon car mechanicals, the gull wing door said it all, style over substance.

The Maclaren F1 was the diametric opposite; it was so good at being a fast car that no manufacturer since has yet managed to replicate or eclipse it as a driver's car. Don't mention the Veyron, it's not in the same league.

Anything that strengthens any perceived visual links between the excellent design that the SVX is and the flight of fancy Lemon that the DeLorean is should be avoided.

Joe

also, possibly because they were designed by the same person?

not heavy, at 2700 pounds (give or take a pound) weighs considerably less than my svx, here is the dispelling of the myth, the body was fiberglass, with 304 grade stainless steel panels hung over them, actually lighter than the steel on most cars, because it was thinner metal.

As for ugly, well, that is subjective I suppose.

Saloon car mechanicals? come on, it was designed in the 70's, gps just wasn't an option yet.

kinda feel like I defend a 30 year old car a lot, but, dang it, I like 'em.

It's indefensible.

One would expect a 2 seater so-called sports car designed and built in the 70's to be lighter than a 4 seater 4 wheel drive GT car with all the modern crash technology built in, and built like a tank, such as the SVX.

I know there are people who liked them and still do, and I'm not on a mission to offend people, but as a sportscar the DeLorean was a serious underperformer at best, and is only beaten in the ugliness stakes by the XT6.

My 2c

Joe
