Just a reminder folks ......

As of right now, the Fall Festival is still a go, including the car show (see the attached flyer). Should be lots of fun!!

Also as RUFUS mentioned in an earlier post, there is the Mercedes club autocross (where all makes and models are welcome, as long as they are "street legal") the following day, Nov 4. Great time there too, with usually about 40 cars participating. Usually three "practice runs" in the morning, and following lunch (at your choice of local places to eat), three runs for "official time" (best of three). Check out the web site in the previous post by RUFUS for details and specific directions to Millbrook High School where the event is run.

We are hoping for good weather that weekend, but while the car show may be called off in the event of bad weather, the autocross will be run rain, snow or shine!! Ahh, the Beauty of AWD!!!!!!!!!

Hope to all of you there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Harry

I'd love to go so bad, but money is the issue will need at least $250 dollars to make it there and well my car isn't in the best shape, it runs and stuff but could use a paint job as I have a ding or 2 but nothing really bad. Plus its a 8hr drive from Fayetteville, NC to there, I was hoping it was on the south side of D.C or something I have a friend who lives in Reston and could probably stay there.
One day I'll make it to some kind of meet.

What she said!!!

Seriously, apple butter is much like apple sauce, but with lots of spices and sugar. Not counting the peeling of apples (most now start off with apple sauce so as to get out of the labor intense peeling of the apples), apple butter is made in old 50 gallon brass or copper pots, set over a wood fire (some people now use gas) to cook the apples (or apple sauce) down (getting the water out of it) for about 12 hours (yep, it takes a long time!!). When it is cooked down enough, sugar and spices are added and it is "cooked" some more. About 100 lbs of sugar is added to a 50 gallon pot. Then it is placed (poured) into jars (usually pints and/or quarts) and capped. The spices and quanity of spice is usually a well guarded family secret ......:-) It will last for ever that way. And as Beck said, delicious!!!! Especially on hot buttered bread!!

A jar alone is worth the trip, but think of all the cool cars you'll see (like SVXi) ........

Harry

Reston and Herdon are both good places, I was just hoping it was close to there or south but I can't make that far of a drive, I wish I could I'd love to meet some other SVXers But you should know how far the drive is from Fayetteville to there, I use to have to go from Here (Fayetteville) to reston and that is a 7 hour drive, depending on who was driving and the time fastest time was 5 1/2 hours Anyways I'll stop wondering off topic here, have fun and wish I could be there.

Car Show Reminder

Just a reminder of the car show - the flyer is attached. Should be great weather, even if a bit cool: sunny with highs in the low 60's.......

If you want to "Mapquest" the directions, the address for Macedonia United Methodist Church is 1941 Macedonia Church Road, White Post, VA 22663. My cell is (540) 535-5528 - give a call if lost .....

Other directions: about five miles SOUTH on Rte 522 from the junction of Rte 50, Rte 522 and Interstate 81 in Winchester, VA. Trun right on to Macedonia Church Road.

Sure would be nice to have another SVX mimi-meet - and remember that there is the Mercedes autocross (all marques welcome) the next day, Sunday, Nov 4.

Come on down to the Winchester area and show your car and run the autocross ............

Looking forward to seeing you there!!

Harry
