new pictures (new wheels installed!!) 56k = go compose a symphony

Well, haven't posted many pictures lately, but today was certainly a good occasion. Bought some 17x8" Rota Slipstreams from a fellow boardmember here a while ago, and today my tires came in. So, what did I do of course, but after work (I work at a tire shop) I put tires on my own car! Yay!

On the car before were a stock sized set of Michelin Pilot Exalto. Great tires, rode awesome, quiet, great traction in snow. Just an all around really really good tire. 10 thumbs up.

Here's a shot of the car before I swapped on the new rims.

Not bad at all, but we can do better...

So, after a little bit of...

and then we go and do some of this...

Then I bend over and check the pressure in everything. Decided on 44F, 42R. Could change, but I liked it on the Michelins so we'll give it a whirl.

While we have the car up here, may as well grab a picture of the tread. Aaaaaand here's a shot of the tire. Cooper Zeon 2XS size 245/40R17, Y speed rating. These are actually slightly shorter overall than the stock tire size. I think it's like a 20 rotation per mile difference so it's pretty close, but interesting nonetheless. The contact patch with the ground is just a hair over an inch MORE with these though, so that will be nice. If only I had the power to NEED that much more traction.... *daydreams*

Well, I finally got everything all torqued down, (90 lb./ft.) got the car off the lift, and quick sprayed it off with the pressure washer so it would at least be presentable for the camera. Here's what I ended up with.

Very, very SVXY if you ask me.

Here's another at the shop.

And then, for no reason at all, here are a couple more that I took at the park quick afterwards.

And then here is a random shot of another small addition to the car recently. Got the key and keyring separately, but both off ebay. Was impressed with the quality of both, and I think it just adds a nice little piece of flair to the car.

Anyway, thanks for stopping by. Let me know what you think, and sorry to go and waste all this bandwidth on my silly car. If you enjoy it half as much as I do it will all be worth it.

Interesting look. I had Cooper XST tires a while ago. Liked them, but found them a little noisy. I'll be curious to find how you like the 2XS.

It is a different look. I like it, but I also like some lighter color at the wheels so it doesn't look so dark. I like the looks of the tires. Let us know how you like them.

Not to sound cliche, but it really is one of those things that pictures don't do it justice. Other folks that have seen it already and online have told me that, and I wholeheartedly agree.

I like lighter wheels too, and I wouldn't be afraid of using something with a nice fat offset (that would look cool) but the price was right on these, and I'd been looking for a set for a while, so I think it all worked out.

On first impressions Performance-wise, the tires seem to handle very well. I also had a set of Cooper Cobra XST's back in the day, and was VERY impressed how much grip they had for the cost. I can't imagine these will be much different.

Also, maybe it's just me, but the car seems to go through the gears just a ...tick... faster. First gear comes and goes very quickly now, and turn in response feels a bit peppier. Once I go out and thrash on it, I'll let you know what I really think though!

Not a true fan of black on black, but the style is great. I love the rims. If you like them that is all that matters.
