Question Mass Airflow Sensor

I've seen and heard something about taking the connections apart (to repair or clean?) on the side of the MAF (4 self-tapping screws). Can those four screws be taken off and the (male) connector be removed for contact cleaning or some connection upgrade?

Am I losing it, or was there such a post comment about the MAF?

At any rate, is there any good cleaning technique (or check) for the MAF as implied earlier ("Beav said, 'Use carb cleaner on the MAF' ").

No, don't try to pull connector out by removing the 4 screws, it will not work - connector is soldered to a PCB inside.

Whether you need to disassemble it depends on your problem.

If you have intermittment stalling on idle and if it has started happening after spark plug, or rocker cover replacement or other work in engine compartment; and if you can provoke or fix stalling by gently pushing on the MAF connector, then read further, otherwise you will be wasting your time.

The soldering of connector to the PCB can go bad (and it did on my car). The way to open the MAF is to cut through the black rubber-like sealer on top of the square black box and remove the plastic lid. There is no need to touch the 4 screws at all.

Once you have it open - it is all quite obvious, you solder connector back, you close the lid and you seal it with a gasket sealant.

I don't get stalling anymore, just intermittent, short-lived rough idle after car sits for hours >> I'll head in another direction!
