Unhappy Opinions Wanted

Folks I can't decide what to do about my car..... While I was moving back to Salt Lake I lost the Tranny and then the engine. (well ..... I didn't really lose them.... there still there THEY JUST DON'T WORK ANY MORE!!!!) As anyone will tell you I love my SVX . I've gotten estimates on replacing (with a short block) the engine and having the Transmission rebuilt at a combined price of 6000.00. Some of you know what I've done to her already. Do I part her out and buy another... or build a new car by adding the engine and tranny to old white wing?..... Don't dwell on how I blew the engine (it will make me cry again). Just help me weigh the options .... Thanks.

My opinion - take a deep breath or two. I don't know how cosmetically perfect your car was, but if close to mint, go for a new drivetrain.
If so-so, take your time, buy another, & strip the present carcass for parts forever. You should be good for another decade on this site. Best wishes - Ron.

While I'm not aware of what you've done with your car as far as upgrades and repairs are concerned, I do remeber someone mentioning that the last owner left you with some problems. If I were you, I'd rather spend the 6k (or even more) on another SVX. Perhaps with lower miles and in better shape.

Can you strip your old SVX of upgrades and transfer them?

Also take into consideration that you might be able to make some money with the parts from it.

That's my opinion.

As much as I hate to hear another SVX getting retired, I would have to agree with the last two posts and say unless the car is near mint, the money may be better spent on another and part this one out. If you got the same color, it would allow for future problems with the new one. Good luck.

I spent 6K last year rebuilding my baby (engine blew head gaskets for the second time). This year I spent another 4K. It has 220,000 miles on it. It never ran better than it does now. 10K for a car that is sound and running great.

Do people think I'm crazy....Yes. Do I care........NO.

The engine came from a junk yard. The Tranny came from Subaru. The original 6K was for the engine and all new running gear and misc. parts, minus the tranny. The engine had 40K on it. The other 4K this year was for the tranny (2nd in this car, first one was replaced by Subaru) and a bunch of electronic sensors that I had replaced.

I love this car.

If you have the $$$$ to spare, it's your decision. I made mine and am happy with it.

People still say I'm crazy.

So What!

Pretty much the way I thinking

I'll think that the parting out idea is the one to go with and then.... remember the work and how well this one felt..... I'm leaning toward the buying a second one.......... But still looking for that perfect solution that I haven't come across yet.... is it standing there waiting to smack me in the face if I make my decision one way or the other????
So far.... I agree with all of you........ and I really am starting to hate getting in to the GL in the morning!!!!1

I'm another crazy one. I've poured potloads into my first SVX. Pert'near put me in the po'house. But, I have no regrets. I'm still happy. Of course, the body and interior were (are) in great shape.

Meanwhile, if you do decide to part it out, AND the color is the original pear AND the hood and right fender are in perfect or near perfect condition, I'd like to consider your pricing them to me.

Meanwhile, I agree that 6 grand can buy a decent lower mileage SVX (I got my 2nd for 3,500 with some cosmetic damage). You may even be able to get a low mileage 94 pearl with some cosmetic damage or a lower mileage 92 pearl (at the risk of losing any body parts for a part out) and combine the two, then sell the leftovers to pay down the "new" car.

It is just over 100k now, however I had no Idea how the car was really treated before.... I got it at 93k I put a lot of suspension work into it as the car had been towed at some point by the rear connecting arms. I abused the car to get to a job interview ... I got the job but lost the car.... (as I said before " I really didn't lose it..... I know where it is ....... IT JUST DOESN'T GO ANY MORE) The car has been repainted Larry it's not the original pearl except under the hood. upon closer examination both driver and passenger side door have been replaced. The trunk lid was from a burgandy, and the drivers seat replaced with one with a cloth inset. (the rest are leather) I have decided after this detailed inspection to go get another one now that I know what to look for!!! so I will be joining the 2svx club here shortly I hope....Thanks for taking the time to offer your opinions.... I've made my decision. Look for parts to become available soon......

Mitch

You know i am told by all myh friends I am a complete idiot for spending over 8,000 bucks on my car this year alone. That is there opinion. Mine: I have fixed almost every possible thing on that car that can be fixed, I know where it has been and I know that I am going to take great care of her...So, yes it is worth fixing the baby because then you know what you are into. Buying another is only going to get you in one more situation where there are going to be problems arrising and you never know what is going to be next! I can honsetly tell you the next thing to go on my car has to be a boot/axle because that is all that is left to break!

But on the other hand thats not completely true the 18 wheeler broke a few things I would not have imagined would break...

Mitch,
that thing must have been in quite a significant wreck to have had all that replaced.

Good choice, Mitch! Take all the good stuff from the old one , drop 'em in the new one and part it out. As steep as parts are for them, you might pay for the second one completely. I just pray to God I'm not in your position at least until I've paid off my SVX.

decisions, decisions......

Like most everyone here, I have a few bucks tied up in my fine car, and it is an on going project....and its getting to be "almost perfect" ( only John, SVXCESS, has the "perfect" car! ) !
Was it worth the expense and effort? Yes for me....bought it cheap, overall very good condition, and I always wanted an SVX.
With the new tranny I have about $ 8500 in it....

After your detailed inspection, I agree with your decision.

Let us know when you open for parts! Dibs on both visors!

How is SLC, and the new gig?
