Why R&D costs so much money
Well boys and girls,
This is the prototype of the powder coated 97 grill. The colour is wonderful, but the shape still needs some work. Well, time for me to call the dealer tomorrow for another grill. Lwin ps. Randy, can I have my waterfall grill back for a while?

I guess Transmissions aren't the only things that don't like heat...
Well, now you can call it art and sell it for a million dollars. Doug

Cool, Lwin. Grill no doubt by another Italian designer. Salvatore Dali.
Ron.

Lwin - won't that be a little hard to get put back onto the car? I think you are on to something. Good luck.

You can powdercoat plastic. Its just every once in a while the plastic doesn't hold up to the baking. But, a lot of times it works just fine.

How is this done? I know that powdercoating metal uses and electrostatic gun (positively charged powder) and a negatively charged rack to get good adhesion. How do you apply the powder to the plastic parts? How do you bake and cross-link the powder at a low enough temperature to not re-create the "Lwin Thermoplastic Effect". Don't most polyester powders use a 400F bake temp? All thermoplastic materials will distort or degrade at that temp. Thermoset plastics should be fine, but would probably outgas causing pinholes or surface porosity. Enquiring minds want to know!

Lambswool generates plenty of static for the powder to stick.
I haven't gotten past the melting yet. The only pieces that survive are sitting on a supported mold so they don't do a meltdown. Doug
