Chrysler itself no longer uses HEMI heads because the loss in fuel economy and insane maintenance costs/requirements far outweigh their performance benefits.

If the HEMI V8 is the greatest V8 ever produced, then why is it not still being produced in any way, shape, or form?
You obviously have no clue as to what you are talking about. Yes, I know what it means. At its TIME, the hemi was named so because it had hemisphereical combustion chambers, when most other engines used a pented upward shape of combustion chamber. This design was more efficient and produced more power. And you're right, no chevy engine uses the chrysler hemi head. THEY USE CHRSYLER ENGINES. Next time you're at the strip or watching funny cars and dragsters on TV, notice what engines they use. ALL CHRYSLER HEMIS. Why?! NOt only is the combustion chamber the best design, but they also came from the factory with 4 bolt mains. I'm sure you don't know what that is either, but FYI, a race hemi can produce upwards of three THOUSAND horsepower. And one final dig as to why you don't know what you are talking about? THEY ARE MAKING THE HEMI. Just pick up a mopar performance catalog; you can still order Hemi Crate engines...AND.... they just RECENTLY produced a brand new HEMI to put into the new dodge ram. It will even have a hemi badge on the side of the truck, just like the days of yore!

PS: My first car was a 68 Charger and I've been a mopar nut since I was 10. Don't test me. :P

Bottom line is that each of the big three have had success and yes mopar has had their share.

John Force drives a Ford with a Ford engine. And I believe that last statement puts the finishing touch on this conversation.
What engine does every competitive dragster use? What engine does pretty much every funny car use? A HEMI. CHRYSLER. Even if it says FORD or CHEVY on the side, it'll still have a CHRYSLER ENGINE. And the 427 is literally nothing compared to the hemi. I haven't seen too many dragsters with one.

Please see post above. The Subaru engine is currently number 2 in the NHRA standings for Comp Eliminator.

The reason you don't see any 427's in DRAGSTERS is that most of them are sitting in BOATYARDS powering pleasure craft. If you're looking for one, scan the local boatyards. Not many hemi's are put in boats, at least not the ones that travel on water.

sure.

PS: If it was competitive or had remotely the potential of a hemi people would be running it.

Yes, but that Subaru engine has a hemispherical combustion chamber. That engine is from the partnership between GM and Subaru when they merged and decided to share their technologies. It's a hemispherical H6....Subaru engine using Chrysler technology. So all dragsters are using Hemi engines.

Why? You can turbo a v8 just as easily as a v6 and make more power. There IS no replacement for displacement. Everything you can do on a little engine you can do on a big one.

I beg to differ. I wouldn't dare put a V8 (be it from Ford, GM or Chrysler - three companies whose products I refuse to buy), even a Toyota V8, in a Lotus Elan S4. That 4cyl engine produces its power while adding very little weight to the car.

Just an example of something a V8 can't do. You can match an Elan in acceleration, but your V8-powered car will never be as light and nimble - while sipping fuel at 25+mpg.

Let me get this straight, Cash. You're saying that even if Ford- and Chevy-badged drag cars use Ford- and Chevy-badged engines, if those engines have hemispherical combustion chambers then they're really Chrysler engines?

I think that's a huge stretch. Following your pattern, I declare all pneumatic tires to be copies of the first, patented by John Boyd Dunlop. All tires are Dunlops.

Your loyalty to Chrysler and your veracity overpower your logic.
