Clay bar the fleet

I clay barred wife's car. Did not feel like was doing anything. When I finally finished and waxed it. Looks great. So I went and did the SVX

Re: Clay bar the fleet

I've never done the clay bar before, to be honest it scares me a bit, I don't understand how it can remove impurities and not contaminate itself with those same impurities. Like rinsing off your sponge in the soapy bucket eventually you are washing with dirty water.

I guess maybe I am overthinking it?

Re: Clay bar the fleet

Actually it looks just like the clay u played with as a kid. U knead it into a flat piece. You spray a solution on the car and rub the clay over it. Every so often you fold it and knead it again. Like I said until I waxed it it didn't look much better. Well the red car is almost new. My SVX came out good I think... Not as great as I thought it would. The worse the paint is the more it will improve it.

Wow! They look great!!!

There is a nano sponge now that is popular amongst detailers as an alternate to the clay bar. I will try to get some more info on it.

I do a bit of auto detailing and love clay bars, the spray is a mix of a special lubricant and spray wax, the clay doesn't actually rub the paint as much as it glides over the paint, pulling up any contaminates embedded in the paint that didn't come out with the wash mit. Ideally you would do a light polish after wards to remove any swirls or oxidation, followed by a nice wax or even a sealant.

I recently did my svx with this method:
Meguiars gold class soap with microfiber wash mitt.
Mothers California claybar over the whole car.
Meguairs m205 finishing polish on a white polishing pad with a Portercable 7424xp.
Meguiars NXT2.0 synthetic wax as a selant.
Collinite 845 heavy duty wax applied with a red pad on the pc7424xp again.

Super happy with the outcome and Collinite wax is supposed to last something like 5 months.
