Obscurity level SVX
So...
I'm dreaming of another obscure car, preferably an open 2 seater.. a proper roadster. As we all know, the great bargains are found where noone is looking Lotus Elan M100 comes to mind but it's front wheel drive... Fiat Barchetta - It's front wheel drive and a .. Fiat... Keep them coming!

Re: Obscurity level SVX
Sierras and Scorpios were in abundance here. They relieved the Granadas and Taunuses (Taunii?).

Re: Obscurity level SVX
It's a fantastic looker but rumour (= motorist "consensus") has it's not a great handler. And it's hardly obscure...
I found one one, the Mazda Autozam AZ-1: The bigger problem is getting this registered for the road... Edit: It's a coupè, not a roadster. But it's LIGHT!

Re: Obscurity level SVX
Good ones. Sera was sort of interesting but FWD is not so tempting. There's the 90s Elan for that Butterfly doors looked really good. Lomax looks great!

Re: Obscurity level SVX
Perhaps "obscure open 2 seater, roadster" wasnt specific enough for our posters that lack reading comprehension. Could you elaborate more?
"Hows about a Cadillac Escalade?"

Re: Obscurity level SVX
Rumor is, a stock SVX isn't a handler, either!
I'd choose the Z1 over the Elan or Barchetta for obscurity; the latter two have shown up on Top Gear enough to be familiar to Statesiders who could never buy them new. You have to admit, it'd get some looks, especially with those doors! How obscure does this car need to be? A Porsche 968 ragtop is outrageously scarce and differs from the plentiful 944 enough visibly to say so, but it is a Porsche, which is familiar as a name. You really run out of options fast if you're only considering current or recent cars. Good ones are rarely obscure unless they're personally imported. I imagine bringing, say, a Holden Ute to my neighborhood would blow a few minds here.

Re: Obscurity level SVX
Why not a Datsun Roadster? Obscure enough that you'll likely never see another one coming or going in your location, but unlike the SVX - it actually has some parts availability.

Re: Obscurity level SVX
I think the Z1 looks absolutely great!
When I said obscure, I probably meant obscure as in forgotten. When noone's really looking to buy it, things are priced correspondingly. This is also why SVX has a significantly lower value than comparable cars. I don't care about age, I want something that looks greatand drives fun. Straights performance not so important as handling in the bends. About the Holden Ute; I think it blows minds everywhere! Fairladies are wonderful cars, maybe if I could find a good one at a decent price. The problem is, the more the collector's car, the more expensive. My "handling" desires actually match price in the sense that import tax here is determined on the basis of displacement, horsepower and weight. My idea is that the lighter the car, the less displancement and hp is needed to power it properly and the better the handling.. as a rule of thumb, of course Quote:

Re: Obscurity level SVX
I like the idea of importing a Mitsuoka from Japan. I know they look a bit odd, but I like my cars to be different to what everybody else drives. That's why I drive an SVX.
