My daughter's Outback was doing the same thing last week and the same cure worked wonders.
WD-40 or any thin oil will wash the grease out of the joint. After you spray it down with something like that, get a can of thick grease (axle or bearing) and pack it in there.

And Laser, don't worry about a new one right now. This is just one of those parts that requires servicing after all of these years. Spray it with a light oil (WD-40, PB Blaster, etc...) then pack it with grease.
