what not to do

as shown in post #42 in :http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/show...t=43413&page=3

I did one this past weekend. Replacing the ball joint is rather easy as your how-to states, but hitting your hand with a hammer and dislocating a finger is something to avoid.

Your how-to is good. Nice and simple, but full of info for newbies.

You can't! They are on different sides of the car...

Keith

Seriously, I did both on mine. One ever so slight wear, the other no wear. Boot deterioration from age could be a factor.
I just decided to do it.

Re: Ball Joint replacement

Keith,

You are correct. SVX Ball Joints are a dealer-only item.

Re: Ball Joint replacement

I'm still puzzled as to how I have 262,000 miles on the original ball joints and they don't move a bit.

But thanks for the great how-to. I'm sure it will come in handy someday.

They are cheaper if you are able to order from subaruparts.com, If I remember right, they are about US$60 a side +shipping and there shouldn't be a need to replace the bolts involved, mine were just fine after 17 MN/WI winters...

Re: Ball Joint replacement

i have been told it is better to use new bolt and nuts since the nuts when properly torqued are self lock
