Question stop lamp light on.

i think my stop lamp checker box is toast. i'm getting the "stop lamp" light every time i hit the brakes, at first it was intermittent, but now it's every time. i replaced all the brake(4) lights with new matching ones but it didn't fix it. all lights are working, brake switch working, and fluid full. does anyone know where the ground is so i can check that? i can't think of anything else, any ideas out there?

if this ends up being the stop lamp checker does any one know if cutting the b22 wire really bypasses the box and does it have any adverse effects?

The stop lamp checker P/N is 88081PA000 and is around $35.00 from subaruparts.com.

It is very easy to replace. It is behind the right side trunk trim in front of the rear washer fluid reservoir.

"STOP LAMP" has absolutely nothing to do with brake fluid.

I believe you've misunderstood. STOP LAMP is the burned-out brake light indicator and nothing more; BRAKE indicates low fluid (or emergency brake set).

I'll bet my car on it. Check out the wiring diagram?

Consider: Why would the BRAKE light and the STOP LAMP light both be wired to verify an appropriate fluid level? This isn't the case, and it wouldn't make much sense if it was.

it's not worth my time to check, i was just going off what some one with over 6,000 posts here said "stop lamp".
neither here nor there, for any one wanting to by pass the stop lamp checker box all you have to do is disconnect the 4 wire harness connecting into the checker box and put a little jumper wire from white w/ red wire to white w/ black (at least that's what color mine are, they are also the two bigger wires)
here's some pics of what i did.....0310081546.jpg
this one shows how rusty my box was inside and what i did for a jumper....0310081545.jpg
do this at own risk, if i run into any problems with the bypass i will post, but for now i'm brake lamp free again

Mine is on all the time too. Only because I replaced the factory lights with LED's since they are brighter and light up faster. However, since they take less power to run, the module thinks that a light is out.

Oh well, I'd rather have bright lights... and this way I know everytime I push on the brake. I guess I've gotten used to the light. *shrug*

the bypass takes maybe 10 minutes and should do away with your problem, plus it's 100% reversable and takes less time to remove.

**for everyone currently without a stop lamp checker problem if you want keep from having a problem i suggest you flip this box 180 degrees. the way it was mounted from the factory will inevetably get water in it and rust out. should only require a 10mm socket or wench and something to bend that tab(hammer or vice grips) that should save you $30 or so.

Mine comes on now whenever I hit the brake. I had a friend hit the brake while I checked the back and sure enough, the middle-passenger's brake lamp is out. All four lights come on if I turn the headlights on, but when I press the brake that one doesn't come on. Ah well, bulb time. At least it's not my checker.

was that after the bypass? or just what's been going on with your stop lamp?

My stop lamp checker worked properly. I replaced the bulb and the problem is gone.
