Fuel Pump help

Ok, I'm tired of seeing how pathetic my SVX looks parked in the street in front of my house, never being driven. So, I've basically narrowed the problem down to the fuel pump. I haven't yet gone down to a local parts store to acquire a new unit, and thought I could arm myself with a bit of knowledge beforehand.

Is there any other car that uses the same fuel pump as a 92 SVX LS-L? How about the OEM part number, anyone have that handy?

I really want to get the car up and running, then freshened up, tuned up, and ready for the 2008 SCCA Solo2 season. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I would assume you can pull one out of any SVX if you can find a parts car in a junkyard somewhere that would work.

Yeah, but SVX's are very few and far between here in Florida. I have yet to see one in a junkyard anywhere in the state. I was under the impression I would have to go to Discount Auto Parts to buy one.

Any other advice? I simply don't trust the goons behind the counter at my local AutoZone.

Yeah, I think you may be right. Any idea what the part number might be? I've found a few different ones online, but I'm not sure what the OEM Subaru # is...

Well, I haven't pulled any codes from the CEL yet, however, after tooling around the car, I can try and turn the car on, and the engine will crank but not fire up. Even with the key in the 'On' position, the fuel pump isn't clicking on.

Now, I know it could be a simple wiring problem. But I figure if I'm going to be freshening this car up for the upcoming autocross season, and i'm going to be working on the fuel system anyway, it's an inexpensive wear item that I can get out of the way now.

Oh, and btw, thank you very much, kwren!

You shouldn't, as you aren't local to me. Not all such places are bad, but many of the employees at the ones around here are so apathetic about their job, it's amazing they have any customers at all. I'd much rather trust people on here who have actual mechanical experience with this car rather than a 17-year old flipping through an old catalog.

I went in to have a car battery tested/re-charged. The guy put it in the machine, turned on the machine, then walked away. After about 20 minutes of walking around, I noticed that he still hadn't actually pushed the "charge" button. I asked him if he needed to actually start the process, and he assured me it was charging, because the fan on the cabinet was on, but it would take over an hour to charge it fully.

So, I went and had some lunch, ran a couple of small errands, and came back to the store. He went over to the cabinet, looked at the little screen, and just said "it must be completely dead, it wouldn't take any charge". I politely informed him it's because he never charged it in the first place. So, rather than wait another hour or start an argument with the clerk, I took my battery and went to Wal-Mart...and sadly received better service.

Sorry to hear that Scott. That does indeed suck. I have a regular job at an ISP/Datacenter, but I also work as a parts specialist at Autozone part time to prevent negative account balances as well as bonus money to make improvements to the race car.

The fuel pump from a Forester is exactly the same.

My brother "borrowed" the fuel pump from my '93 to get his '97 Forester Turbo running.
