He has already been shown how to read codes...
he stated then that he wanted a standalone piece of equipment.

Oh, sorry, haven't seen him around.

The only OBD1 code reader would be the Subaru Select Monitor and they're expensive... prohibitively so in some cases...

I don't think any of our spiffy software can read error codes right now. Maybe in the very near future we'll have something that can using one of the many cable options available.
