Production numbers and color relationship?

I always wondered about this:

When the SVXs were going down the assembly line, do you think the colors assigned to the cars varied from one to the next, or are there a batch of cars painted in succession the same color before they change to another color?

Example: If all 1996 LSi's have beige interior, do you think my car #216 (polo green) could have been by preceded by another polo green #215 or suceeded by another polo green #217?

I wonder what determines this? Does anyone with closely matching production numbers, in any year, with the same color?

I would imagine that once a manufacturer determines how many of each given color will be produced in a model year, the cars are painted in batches.
Granted depending on how many different color choices there are and how well each sold the previous year (not counting new color choices for a year) will determine how many a "batch" will consist of before switching to another color.
So yes, more then likely your Polo was either preceded or suceeded (or both) by another polo.

That's what I thought, unless my car was at the end of the polo green batch and #217 was the next color in the sequence.

An additional question: I wonder if all the cars destined for a particular market are painted in the batches peculiar to that country.

Maybe #217 was the beginning of the bright yellow batch destined for Australia.

I think you got it right. When Leo's 94L and my old 94L were only a few numbers apart in the VIN (something like 20 or so if I recall). They both had the same interior, same colours, and such.

It makes more sense for them to say let's make 100 reds, 100 yellows, 100 blues etc. rather than make one red, two white, two black, five yellow, three maroon.


One thing we have to keep in mind is that some countries got some colours and some although had the same colours, the name of the colours were different. Eg. Teal and Peacock blue. And bordeaux pearls of 94 and 97 were not the same shade either.

Can't say for sure in the case of the SVX, but I would guess it would depend on how many plants produce the same model car. I would imagine that unless one plant does the production, they lump the production of each market area to the same plant, therefore painting colors at those plants for the markets they serve if you follow what Im saying.

I have details for all JDM SVX models sold and yes they were made in color batches. Bigger batches for more popular colors.

With the 93 that were shipped to this country, they were the first 301 and had numbers that were sequential and then the others were painted the other colors.

Looking at '96 SVXs, my brilliant red L model is #321. The salvaged '96 LSi one member just bought off of Ebay:

Just spoke to Svxfiles, and his son Nick's (Boxer6) Ebony '96 LSi is production #750.

Seems like Svxcess is onto something!

I found a 96L with last 3 digits # 338 is green...

If you go search for autotrader, there're currently two 96s for sale, one last 3# is 338 is green and one last 3# is 558 is red.

I don't know The green one has no pic.... but there's the SVX listed from a subaru dealer...
