Help: New 95 SVX LSi Owner

Well, I just bought a 95 SVX LSi, and would like some helps from you
guys.

1. What's the easiest way to fully flush the trans fluid. I want to
replace the fluid with Amsoil synthetic universal automatic
transmission fluid. Anyone had experience with this Amsoil product
or would suggetst a better product to use?

2. I believe the rear is binding since I can feel/hear it with the
slightest steering input (even when going straight I can hear some)
which would suggest replacement of the transfer clutch according to
my research. What's a fair price for the part and labor? I too
plan to replacing the differential gear oil with Amsoil series 2000
SAE 75W-90 synthetic gear lube. Anyone had experience with this
Amsoil product or would suggetst a better product to use?

3. Can anyone suggest a shop with a knowledgeable mechanics who knows SVX in Detroit Michigan area (100 miles radius)?

Any suggestions/comments will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in
advance.

Talking Hey another MI owner

Welcome to the site and sorry to hear about your problems.

There are a couple of shops in SE Michigan that have SVX experience; Hodges Subaru in Ferndale is my dealer (Chinh-a tech owns and SVX) , Suburban in Troy has a Tech who owns an SVX, and Ann Arbor Subaru has done good work according to another member here. All should be able to help you with your problems.

Regards,
Todd

SVX Service

Hi Sunny, Ann Arbor Subaru does A nice job. In the 25 plus years I've been going to them for service I've never been flim flamed. Lou Lippert is the Service Mgr. Very knowledgeable about all things Subaru. Give him a call at 734/662-3444 and tell him Bob Puscheck referred you. He will not steer you wrong. Take care, BOBB

Wink

Welcome to the neighborhood. I use the Amsoil Synth product. Also 'Redlone' is very popular here. Most shops can do full flush. Expect about $120 or so in fluid.

Do alot of searching on this site. There is a ton of info here.

Thanks. I am not quite a newbie as I have a 1992 green SVX LS-L since 2000 as well. I'll definitely give Ann Arbor Subaru a try although it looks really small for a dealership. I roack climbed weekly just next to it (Planet Rock; biggest indoor Rock Climbing gym in US).

I do have one quick question. I changed the AT oil yesterday with the Red-Line products I had sitting around (regular change, not a full flush). I didn't meant to change it, it was an accident when I mistaken the bolt for the AWD Diff one............ Long story short, after the oil change, the light for D (drive) in the PRND321 panel and cluster gauge won't come on on although it drives fine and has lights for 3-2-1. Any thoughts? Thanks.

Sunny

I've done that before myself, thinking it was the tranny when it turned out to be the diff ("why is only a quart or so of fluid coming out?"
But anyway my light for D has always been out; I think that because that light would be lit up the most during the life of the car that it would be the first to burn out. I don't mind it personally; I think I would rather have it turned off anyway during normal driving. Think of it as a "feature"

If one of the lights went out, I wouldn't worry about it, but both lights for D went out on the PRND321 shift lever panel and cluster gauge panel right after the auto transmission oil change makes me worry quite a bit. I just didn't want it to be something obvious that I can fix and not cause REAL transmission problem later.............

Question Sunny?

Jackie is that you?

Okay, I know it's you. Welcome to this post. I guess it's another one that we are both on but on this one we have the same vehicle. Did you get your old SVX back from your brother?
