another 5mt question

as the title states...i have a few questions on doing a 5mt swap.

currently, there is a 04 legacy 2.5 5mt in a locally upull that i can get for 100 (plus all odds and in like rear end, drive shaft, pedal assembly, clutch ect, brake booster?) but will this trans work well...im assuming it will and also understand install will be a little harder due to hydraulic lines?

what else would be recommended to get off the car? also, any advice for the trans mount mod and pedal mod? i have OBD-1 so im sure no CEL will be thrown?

Any help and advice would be helpful. I have done some googling...so please dont go there. My research has given me a pretty good insight on what i can expect but i havent found anything about anyone using 04 legacy 5mt...mostly older legacy/impreza swaps and 03+ wrx/sti swaps

again im pretty sure the trans will work but better off safe then sorry

Thanks fellas (and ladies)

Re: another 5mt question

No expert but I agree the tranny will work. You did not mention all the bolts. Get them also. Tranny cross member fabrication is the biggest part ,Pedal set can be done wrong also . Check out what others have done.. Don't know y u say hyd clutch is a bigger problem. Good luck and the effort is worth. Mine is an 02 WRX , I DRIVE IT LIKE A NORMAL CAR. If you don't go racing it and slamming gears the Legacy tranny works fine. Seen Forster and Impreza tranny even used .

That tranny will be fine for a daily driver....as said above get the bolts for the flywheel, and Pressure Plate and driveshaft......that trans can be changes to use a cable clutch if you prefer

Re: another 5mt question

Huck,

i was unaware that i can change from hydro to clutch....how would i go about that??

Conn,

thanks for the bolt info...i have the how to-s saved for reference finally lol but i say the hydro is more complicated cause i have find mounting locations for the master and slave cylinders. As for seeing how others have done it, thats partly why i posted this post, to get others feedback and tips

what did you do for you trans mount and the pedals...and the master/slave cylinders?

pics wold be nice

The NA Transmissions can be switched to a cable, but the Turbo ones can not.
To switch them, you will need the Cable Clutch fork, and will have to unscrew the Pivot for the fork from the tranny, and screw it into a different locatioin (already threaded in the transmission)
You of course also need a cable, and the cable bracket (that mounts on the top of the tranny)and the clutch pedal from a cable clutch car.
