O.T. Skiing Question - Canada

I have a friend who is planning a ski vacation for her family for Feb. recess with her two younger children.

Do any of you skiers out there know of a good resort near Montreal (sp) Canada? The place needs to have some Green trails for the kids.

I suggested Mt. Snow, but she is looking further away to aviod the crowds during this busy skiing time of the year.

Thanks,

Tell her to head to Calgary, and ski where the skiing is good and not where the skiing is crap.

I suggest in order of fantastic skiing:

Lake Louise
Wistler (BC, kind of a drive but still reasonable)
Nakiska
Mount Norquay
Fortress Mtn

All of which will be busy on the weekend, but are great mid week. Also the really big areas (ie Lake Louise and Wistler) have more than enough back slopes that you will rarely fun into other skiers during the entire day.

Tell her to try Tremblant or Gray rocks north of Montreal. Tremblant has a much greater selection of trails and other activities besides skiing. The school break in Canada is the 2nd week in March so Feb may not be so bad.

I would recommend Jay Peak in northern Vermont. It is very close to Montreal, the snow is the best in the East, the skiing is great for all levels, and the prices are very reasonable. I have been there 4 times for week long vacations and the whole family loved it. There are many slope side condos and a hotel at the base. They have tree skiing for kids and out of bounds skiing for adults is actually encouraged. The area does cater to Canadians with all trail signs in both French and English.

The one downside is that there is not much to do other than ski. You can go sleigh riding but there is no "village" like at other places. Things may have changed as I have not been there in ~ 4 years.

A multitude of skis to feed my need to go faster, faster until the thrill of speed overcomes the fear of death.

Mt. Sutton in Southern QC

We're going back this year, having had a phenomenal time last year -- about the size of Bromiley in VT, but with tons of trails, glades and what-have-you. Most trails are surrounded by trees, so the wind/ice factor is cut way down. The prices are great, plus when you throw in the US$/CDN exchange it becomes unbelievable. After skiing here I don't think I'd ski stateside again.

Re: O.T. Skiing Question - Canada

Mont St. Anne and Mont Tremblant are probably the two most popular spots within an hour or two drive out of Montreal.

I can get more info on it if you need it. Let me know.
