O2 Sensor plug release?

I have a couple new o2 sensors, and I thought I might try them myself today. So the car is on ramps right now but I can't quite figure out the release mechanism for this plug. Is there an area the needs to be squeezed or something that needs to be pulled up? Is it by hand or will I need a tool? I feel so useless...

Its been a little bit but if I remember correctly theres a small tab that has to be lifted before it will pull free. I think I used a small bladed flat-edge to slide under it and twist to free it from below.

Re: O2 Sensor plug release?

I'm still not getting it, but I'm going to keep tinkering with it off and on today. Thanks for the help. I'll try it from underneath next.

Re: O2 Sensor plug release?

You need to get your fingernail underneath a little tab and pull it away from the body of the plug as your pulling them apart.

Do the passenger side first, there is a little more room for hands and eyes over there...

Re: O2 Sensor plug release?

Okay I get it now. The connector plugs are pretty easy once you know how.

Now I have the new passenger side 02 sensor installed, and the plug removed on the drivers side, but I am having trouble unscrewing the drivers side sensor from the pipe. The first thing I need to do is go back to the store and buy a better fitting socket. The one I purchased doesn't quite slip over the top of the oem sensor.

If it is really stuck how do I go about heating them up?

(Only I could make this simple job last this long.)

Re: O2 Sensor plug release?

I use a long box-end wrench and just unscrew them!

Re: O2 Sensor plug release?

A hint on a wire "quick disconnect"
If you have a new part, just liik at the conector on the new part and that will make it easier to see how to disconnect the old one

Yeah, wasn't sure. I had been thinking either Butane torch or just running the car. In the end all it really needed was decent wrench. I couldn't find one to purchase that would fit, but the Autozone tool loan kit worked great. (Thats where I was heading when I passed you in my Mazda.) Anyhow job done, and I feel good about it because I really didn't think I could do it.

By the way Manarius there is a Claret parked at the tire/repair shop near Dairy Queen on Simpson Ferry Road. This town is getting crowded with SVXi.

Ah, yes, the autozone people in there almost know me by name (it's about a 5 min. drive from my apt to that autozone).

I saw that Claret; I'd say it's been there about a week now.

A few weeks ago my wife and kids told me they saw a Liquid Silver with suede seats [and a baby seat] at Friendly's in Camp Hill. It surprised me that my kids would notice a SVX, but I was even more surprised to hear that there was another silver in the area.
