Turbo 3.3 Impreza

Im at the point in my build were i can decide whether or not to go turbo. Is the 3.3 "turbo-able" with stock bottom end and stock CR (10:1, something in there right). I know the car is going to be very fast, im expecting it to weigh in the area of 2600-2700lbs. Not heavy, but good for a street/track car. The drivetrain will be built to handle the engine but i want to see what you guys think while i have the engine apart. Thanks

Re: Turbo 3.3 Impreza

turbo + stock internals = not worth your time. You could run maybe 7-8psi safely (with a FMIC of course) but I would not try it. You should get rods and lower CR pistons IMHO... Engine management will be your biggest hurdle at this point...

I beg to differ. My car is quite a bit of fun for not a lot of money. My turbo build has a lot of miles on it over the last three years without any signs of detramental effects on the motor as of yet. You should see how I drive it, its a hard 15K miles. Idles smooth and steady, AFR runs 14.7:1 on the highway and 11.4-11.7:1 on full wot in all gears (ok, fifth is a bit on the richer end at lower rev's).

Re: Turbo 3.3 Impreza

Then I stand corrected.. I thought that you had gotten frustrated with the turbo because it was too small.....

it was This isnt Well, if i ever get around to finding someone with a digitial camera again that is what you would see in my engine bay.
60-1 genuine garret hybrid with an .83 a/r GT style T3 hot side. I should add this is not a ball bearing unit, just a 360 thrust.
I am using the ecutune stage 2v7 with a 5:1 rising rate fpr on top of the 370's for added safety. Hence the fifth gear richness.

Re: Turbo 3.3 Impreza

ok, so what would be a "safe" turbo setup, i need bigger injectors, off of what, Z32? Will the VG30 280ZX have the same injectors cause i can get those. What turbo combo should give me decent spool, not looking for crazy boost, just enough to know its there.
