most of the local auto parts places have them for about 60-70 buck. core charge of course but get that right back.
Define special tools...

Check out the "how too" on the half shafts.
I loosen the axle nut a bit first before jacking up the wheel.

then use a jack and jack stands while working

were your tie rods coming from New Jersey?

I would never re-boot the cv joint. If anything gets in there, it's going to eat away at it, and eventually break it. At the price of axels, $50-60, it's not worth it.

I believe just a 12mm, 14mm, 17mm wrenches and sockets and you're good. Jack it up, take off the tire, disconnect the lower control arm so it can swing out a bit, and the axel should slide out with some "love".

You also need a 3/16" punch to remove the axle pin and a 32mm socket for the axle nut.

Get a hold of SVXfiles for the axle. He has NEW ones for $75. You don't need to worry about getting a bad rebuild and you don't have to return the core.

I've had a very good experience with SVXFiles on the deal, and the shipping. And it makes more sense to get them NEW if you can, as opposed to re-built anyway.
Good call on the punch, and test the roll pins for direction while you have the new parts in hand. It'll save you some vocal cord in the very near future. "It's twooo. It's twooo."
