Noise @ hi speed??

When above 75mph, I can hear noise from rear..like some light airplane is following me. like..booonnn..
Hmm.. I hope it's not the drive shaft spinning unbalanced or anything.

First I thought it was wheels unbalanced but I recently get them balanced, but the noise is still there.

I don't remember if rear bearings make noise like that. I thought it was humming noise. I don't hear humming...yet.

This is on my '92. My '96 is fine.

Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

My bearings definitely weren't a humming noise. They didn't sound like "mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm..." It was a much angrier sound. A friend asked if the engine was in the back.

Noises at speed

Ryu,
Just a thought, since we live in the same sort of climate. I occasionally get that kind of noise on my '92, and it seems to be from the exhaust resonators. It comes strong at 1700 rpm when the car is cold, then gets less and less as the engine warms and the loose bits in the resonators expand and don't rattle around as much. It comes again, fainter, at harmonics of 1700 rpm. Mildly annoying, I think in the spring, I will replace the resonators.
You're not that far from me, perhaps we should get together and listen to our respective noises.
Paul

It could be your tires as well. Sometimes they will make noise above different speeds.

Exactly. Above 75 mph, my secondary engine fires up!

I remember humming was when doing high speed cornering...like on the freeway exit lamp. That was from my '92 pearlie I used to own.

haha, I noticed the noise when driving on 405 south today

I used to have similar situation like you mentioned above with my '92 pearlie I used to own. But this one is different, it's more like speed related, not rpm. I'll still check up the resonators though.

I guess my co-worker lives around your neighbor... what color is your '92?
Alfa 164 is sweet, it's got similar rear end design with SVX

I hope it's not tires since tires are new. I forgot to mention, but the when wheels got balanced that's the time I got new tires.. Bridgestone Potenza! The tire itself is really nice and quiet...on city driving. (I usually use '92 for commuting = city driving) I had this noise with previous tires too so I suspect other than tires.
I bet it's nice and quiet too on freeways if my SVX didn't have this unknown noise.. Having said that, I shouldn't even been driving 75mph.. it's already above the speed limit! The noise help me to drive safe....?
