I have split off the front plastic pieces covering up the underside of the engine bay.

there's supposed to be under guards under the engine? Does it cover the whole underside, like, you have to take it off to change the oil?

I don't think you have to take it off to change the oil... I haven't had mine in nearly 5 years now so honestly, I forgot

Well, it gets messy if you don't take it off to change the oil.

<--- 5MT.... I don't have to worry about that .... Also, with it off I have noticed that my engine bay gets dirtier alot quicker... No fun if you have a cone filter on your intake... Luckly I took that off and went back to the stock airbox...

Op...

I'll see if I can find mine. I'm not going to be using it, since I'm stripping the car down for the rebuild and open road racing project...

...I'm having Paul Eklund of Primitive Enterprises build me a custom skidplate, and if I can spring for it, make it out of CF for weight savings.

You definitely don't want to make it out of Carbon Fiber... Unless you just have a ton of money burning in your pocket... Think about the properties of carbon fiber for a second... Now think about the first time you hit something, anything hard in the road which would put alot of force on it...

In short, carbon fiber is very strong, but only in longitudinal direction... In other words parallel forces (push or pull) along the surface of the material... However when carbon fiber receives a perpendicular "blow" it doesn't dent like aluminum would, it shatters... Aluminum is light enough and is what you should be building a skid plate out of... Look at Rally Cars... Aluminum...

Thanks for the information. I'll keep it in mind when we finalize the decisions of what we're doing.
