in the market for a new tranny

I am probably going to need a new tranny for my 92. its slipping really bad. barely has third or fourth gear. possibly high clutch? i would rather replace than rebuild. im looking for something inexpensive. maybe a used svx or one from a legacy that would fit.any help would be appreciated

I have the 4.44 geared trans out of a legacy outback... I LOVE it.

Update

it finally went today. it only took three days from slipping to no gears. i think the pump blew and caused it to burn up. i tried changing the fluid and it dumped almost 2.5 gallons of fluid. and now i only have first and second. how hard is it to change the trannies out in these cars?

Pull the lines off the radator, and backflush it with some carb cleaner, there is a filter screen in there that likes to plug up (There are two cooler lines coming out of the tranny, the one that comes from the rear of the tranny is the return line, follow it to the radiator, I'm pretty sure that it goes to the left hand bung on the radiator but I'm not positive, anyway the bung that this line goes to is the one you want to spray the carb cleaner into, see if any gunk comes out. It's probably too late for your tranny but it might at least make it drivable for a while.

When you put the new tranny in, make sure you flush the cooler lines to remove any gunk, and replace the external filter that's under the battery, it's about the size of a beer can, is black, and has two lines coming off it.
