Back Lights

My back lights have quit working. I have turn signals, brake lights, backup lights, but the tail and running lights will not work. I have checked fuses, bulbs, and wires, and have not figured it out yet. Anyone have some ideas? Thanks in advance.

PS No lights on the dash indicate lights out either. I know that if 2 are burnt out at the same time, it may not light up.

Talking

It's a sign from God to give your extra SVXen to the less SVX-laden among (or a couple dozen miles north of) you.

that's pretty weird set of lights to stop functioning.

I believe the backup lights don't go thru the steering column harness, but go from fuse #1 thru the inhibitor switch and on to the lights. I'm assuming the gear change lights on the dash change (not the lights on the console). If yes, then that eliminates the inhibitor switch.

Does the License plate light work? The tail and marker lights share a harness connection with the license plate light. If it's out too, then I'd start at that harness connection and look for power/ground.

Also both of the below diagrams show a common grounding point, might check that out.

Earl,

When I was parting out my 94, I noticed that all the tail lights stopped working when I took out the heated mirror/park light switch on the dash. I plugged it back in, and the lights worked again. Perhaps your problem is with that switch? Just a guess.

Dave

I think Dave got it. Check your parking lights. Those control all the lights outside.

Dave is the One! I was working on that switch when it all started (or stopped). The license plate lights don't work either.

I was trying to change the little lights and then the whole switch fell apart. I will get it back together and that should do it. I hope. Thanks for figuring that out.

I LOVE THIS SITE!!!!!!!!! oh yes, and it's members.

Glad to help. You learn all sorts of good stuff when you part out a car!

You could swap that switch with one from your other SVX's to verify, but I think we pretty much solved this one
