OT Rally Justy! WOOHOO!

Last night I changed the oil in the Justy for the first time in about a year. It's jsut a total pain in the ass. I have to lift the entire car well off the ground to get to the oil filter, which is on the back of the engine.

Little did I know that it would be rally preparation!

(collective groans from the audience)

I finally found a Detroit area SCCA chapter. I hadn't been looking too hard, but today I just happened upon the site. I contacted them and received a reply in short order. It turns out that they have a road rally this weekend! WOOHOO!

So, if I can scrounge up a codriver, I get my first rally in the Justy.

Hee hee hee hee ho ho ho ho

I am so friggin' geeked. Here's the flyer.

What do you mean raise the car off the ground?? Can't you just reach behind under the hood to get to the filter? Oh wait, yours is EFI.

Don't you have to get under the car anyway to drain the oil?

Too bad I couldn't join you with my Justy! Kind of a mini challenge.

Yeah, it'd be cool to have multiple Justys represent!

The hole I have to squeeze my arm through in order to reach the filter is at such an angle that I have to get the entire car off the ground. Otherwise I can't fit my arm through.

It's a pain in the ass, but I have it down now. Jacking up the Justy doesn't require the geometry that jacking up the SVX does. The Justy only weighs 1800 pounds.

Can't you just sorta flip it over, then change filters, then roll it back rightside up?

Sony called...

...and my first rally in the Justy is cancelled. My codriver bailed, and I severely doubt I'll find another by Saturday.

Man, I wish I had some friends, you know?

Nick,

Let Amber drive. You be the navigator.
She'll love you for it.

Let Amber navigate!

Sharon and I have participated in dozens (maybe hundreds) of rallies. As I recall, we only managed to suffer two DNF's. Those were the ones where she drove and I navigated. It was really her fault though. She should have told me not to position two instructions on the second page under the clip.

Really, try to convince Amber to go. We have many fond memories of silly fights and amazing victories that we'll never forget.

Remember your Main Road Rules. And remember: The quoted sign is on the right of the route that you would follow in the absence of that sign. And remember Aristotle: No two course-following instructions may be executed at the same intersection. (?!?) Have fun. (If I were there, I'd love to navigate for ya.)

Good idea, but she can't (and won't) drive stick. She's actually offered to be my codriver, which is sweet, but I don't want her to go along out of pity. I want to take somebody who wants to be there - both of us will enjoy it more.

Hey Larry, maybe Rosie would be willing to help out? Don

Pockets,

I'd drive the 4 hours and back from TO just to bounce around in a Justy... Alas, I have to work both Saturday and Sunday...

Heh, thanks. It's the thought that counts, right?

Well, Amber's going to be my codriver. I told her that if she hates it we can drop out early.

Now I need to find some little vinyl American flags and letters to spell out 'A Owens' and 'N Owens.'

YAY! Go easy on her (I know you will) and she'll love it.
