Re: another Red 95 for sale

If I had the money, I would buy it and have it shipped to the USofA That is one clean red svx, love the dark interior on it too. Very different.

Re: another Red 95 for sale

Notice it has the NZ standard type rear lamps (no extra brake lamps - only reflectors, also reversing lamps are in different location).

Since I broke mine shortly after getting the car Subaru here in NZ told me a new one could be mine for a mere NZ$1300 + GST........

So I got a couple from USA (came with the extra stop lamps) - it was just a case of "plug & glow".

Also now have the rear side markers, as NZ only came with reflectors on the corners - so now I have a full rear light section from USA, with lots of extra lamps, and fronts that are glass not yellow plastic (if only NZ version got the fog lamps I would be one happy chap).

Re: another Red 95 for sale

Hi guys,

I am the new owner of the red SVX.

Approx. 8 years ago I had a JDM SVX in burgundy & sold it at 140k. I have always admired the SVX, being a car that combined Japanese engineering with unconventional Italian styling. They are also a great grand touring car. I only wished they had sold more & followed it up with the concept Amadeus, which was a 2 door avant/wagon version of the SVX.

This SVX was purchased from U-Sell & not Turners. It indeed has a metal 'top tank' for the radiator which is the only unsightly part of the car, but glad to have had it sorted. This isn't a rare hatchback version & to be honest I wasn't ware of such a variant. Can oab_au advise me/us about this variant?

I looked at several SVX's with mileage ranging from 150-275k & this 300k car was by far the best condition & spec'ed SVX out there (at the moment). Most were mechanically tired, poor or no service history & with worn interiors & exteriors.

The previous owner had the car from 88k to 295k & religiously serviced it every 5-10k with a full service history without which I would not have bought the car, no matter had good the appearance or pre-purchase inspection report. Having had the cambelts done at 285 helped & being a NZ new car also made the decision a little easier.

So, like most of you who have admired the SVX in red, I invested 2 weeks of research & checks to be absolutely sure I wasn't buying a lemon (including detailed conversations with the previous owner).

Since buying the car, I have had all the fluids changed & a complete 300k service - just for peace of mind. I have also bought a new set of tyres (Michelin Pilot Sport SP3 - fantastic tyres for almost any price - read all about them on www.tyrereviews.co.uk (in the latest isue of Wheels magazine) as the previous Goodyear Eagle F1's on the car were bought second hand by the previous owner & were out of round causing a weird steering feel & thrum from the rear.

There is one outstanding matter & that pertains to the ABS fault light coming up intermittently, whether braking, cruising or accelerating. Winger Subaru spent hours looking for the cause, but could not find the fault. The car brakes OK & the ABS works fine, so if any of you are aware of the possible or probable cause, I would be keen to hear from you.

Surteess -thanks for you support in getting my account validated. Tis much appreciated. Perhaps we can met up some time & I can shout you a coffee for your efforts.

Cheers,
Todd

Re: another Red 95 for sale

Thanks subbieatnz.

I am based in Auckland. More stable ground here....although I did live in Chch for 2 1/2 years.

Yes, you are right, the advert did note the car was a hatchback.

Looking forward to some SVX related banter, esp. any ideas on the intermittent ASB fault light.

I also posted a query elsewhere, but no response so far, so perhaps a Kiwi/Ozzie can help out pertaining the concept SVX, then called the SRX. Check out my other Down Under thread.

Re: another Red 95 for sale

Search ABS relay sticking. Also there is a way to check for ABS computer codes in the How-To Docs: http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/showthread.php?t=53899

(Since you are new: To find about half of the things in the How-To section, you have to change the "Display options" to show threads since the Beginning.)

Thumbs up Re: another Red 95 for sale

Todd,

welcome on board - since the link in the first thread is now out of date, your car cannot now be viewed.

I seem to remember that your car has lamp washers mounted on the front bumper - was this an aftermarket fit ?

If not can you take some photos of washer bottle position & also the switch on the dash (I presume it is one of my empty place holders?).

I have a full set of service manuals - so will have a look at the ABS warning light issue for you tomorrow.

Re: another Red 95 for sale

Hi Steve,

My car does indeed have headlamp washers, although I am unsure if it was an aftermarket addition.

There is no separate wash water tank. It appears to be sourced from the main windscreen wash water tank.

Attached are photos of the headlamp washers, switch & under bonnet water tank.

Thanks for following up on the ABS fault light. Winger Subaru Greenlane (WSG) spent much time looking into this but could find no fault. They did indicate it might be a wire fault within the loom & suggested an auto electrician look into it further, but being an intermittent fault, the labour time can stretch on forever without a confirmed diagnosis. Fortunately, they did not charge the full time allocated to the job, esp. as they could not isolate the fault, even after talking to Subaru NZ.

This raises another query. Who or what workshop in Auckland has some depth & breadth of experience with SVX's? WSG is very convenient, but it would be good to know if there are any other options.

Todd

Re: another Red 95 for sale

That switch looks factory.
I had never seen it offered as a extra option for a SVX?
But Subaru has offered lots of oldball extras you could get on different models in the past.

Was it sitting for a long time?

My old Alcyone XT6 was in storage for a few years and the ABS played on that. The wheel sensors stuck on or something.
Once it was taken a couple of good long drives they freed up and worked fine till I sold it.

Re: another Red 95 for sale

It does look factory, but without knowing what options they offered at the time, it is hard to know if it was a factory option.

the car was on sale for while, so did only a few k's after about 6 weeks. Not sure about before that though i.e. before U-sell go it as old owner is know in Oz.

The right front brake calipers did require 'freeing up'. Once to get a warrant & again when I got Winger Subaru Greenlane to do a 300k service.

Do you or any other SVX know of non-Winger Subaru workshops that have a history specialising in SVX's?

Re: another Red 95 for sale

I would love to see the pictures of the whole car. I missed it when it was on the post the first time.. I did finally see the pictures . I don't see the radiator, I also don't understand the comment of the non fast back? And I see it has a hitch on the back. I would love to see how that looks under the car. ( where it attaches etc....)
