Re: Leaking Coolant

Take it directly back and tell them to fix it. Likely that it isn't fitted correctly somehow.
Any mechanic that causes issues, should fix them free of charge. Take a couple photographs beforehand if practicable, if you can find the leak.

Re: Leaking Coolant

You should be aware that 2 coolant drain plugs are located on the bottom of the engine towards the front, one on each side of the oil pan.

It is possible that when the radiator was fitted, the old coolant was drained, and these plugs were removed, but were not correctly refitted.

Jason.

Underneath the engine implies the water pump is going out s. Check and make sure they tightened the hoses good.

AND make sure that the overflow tube is pushed all of the way over the hexagonal part of the radiator neck overflow tube.

Thumbs up Re: Leaking Coolant

Thanks guys.

I just purchased a new water pump for $85. My car has been sitting for a LONG time.

I will check what you have said while installing new pump.

Cheers!

Re: Leaking Coolant

Hi Cam,

Yeah, my cousin/mechanic said the same thing about the timing belt. He also wants to do the cam seals. Are these around in Sydney area? Thanks.

Re: Leaking Coolant

OK.

I have bought a water pump - $80 Autopro.

I have new cam seals etc $34 Hunter Subaru

AND the TIMING BELT - $165 Hunter Subaru (couldn't locate aftermarket type)

Fitting it this week.

I didn't get new sprockets though. Hope they are ok.

Cheers.

Re: Leaking Coolant

Idle pullys should be okay. I have had apprently two sets go out on my car. One before I bought it (evidence were the marks on the cover) and once while I owned it. Also you'll know when one of them are on the way out when you here a metal on metal grinding coming from the middle of the front of the engine. Plus in good light you can actually see the medal shavings in the air.

Re: Leaking Coolant

I have the new aluminium radiator out, and the front of the engine off to replace timing belt.

I have found there is an oil leak from the right cam seal.

Re: Leaking Coolant

you can get the seals separately if you can get the old one out and get the part number or do a search for the right part number any bearing place/repco should have one i have some seals spare from a turbo liberty but i dont know if they interchange. At least its not critical with these engines if the timing belt breaks, aside from the inconvenience check your bearings if theyre quiet your good

cam

ps i know your pain ive just had to fix both of my libertys that had cooling problems one of them being a water pump, where'd you get yours from? any chance you can get a pic of the new or old pump?

It turns out that the water pump I bought is for the 2.5 EJ25, Goddammit!

I will go back tomorrow ans see if they have the correct one. Then, I will post photos etc.

Re: Leaking Coolant

I ended up ordering the water pump from Subaru. The non genuine one was iffy and the same price. $130 AU

I picked up my timing belt and various seals from Subaru too. At least they have HEARD of the SVX, unlike the AutoPro store! "VRX, WSX, SV What?"

Stay tuned - almost drivable!
