Re: JDM HVAC swap
That's pretty cool.
It looks blue. Is that the stock illumination color for the JDM cars? Do their stereos and dash lights match? Nice work.

Re: JDM HVAC swap
No its actually green. It matches everything.
What can I say other than I like JDM parts and I like a challenge! It still has the same outside air temp and Celcius coutdown issues that the Alcyone owners have. Hopefully one day someone on the UK forum figures out whats causes this otherwise I might have to get another unit that hopefully does not have this issue. Still have not had time to pull it back out and double check that its not a bad connection somewhere. To those that don't know what I am talking about the JDM HVAC units have a common problem where them outside air temp will intermittently pop up and the temp will count down to 18C if you try to turn it up. Not that I really care since I live in a Tropical climate but alot of owners in UK drive around with a small shim in the temp button to keep it from counting down to the coldest setting! Re: JDM HVAC swap
Maybe the plug behind the kick panel changes from C-F like it changes US systems from F-C??

Re: JDM HVAC swap
Good job on figuring all of that out. It was no small undertaking that is for sure. Good luck on finding the other problem on the countdown.

Re: JDM HVAC swap
I really like it because it has the dedicated A/C button, as well as outside/recirc air.

Re: JDM HVAC swap
Not sure if or how to switch to Fahrenheit. How do you do it on a LH unit? A plug under the kick panel? I see you have a RHD car ensteele, thats awsome! Ever try to switch from Celecius to Fahrenheit on it?
I just could not take it any more! Pulled the unit back out put my extra one in and I am going to replace all the wires I soldered to the board. I used solid copper wire instead of stranded because that was what I had lying around. Going to redo it in stranded. Im pretty sure this will give me a better connection to the greenboard. Doubt this is causing the countdown issue but you never know. |

Re: JDM HVAC swap
Made this video of the unit in operation last night right before I pulled it back out to try to sort out the temp countdown issue.

Re: JDM HVAC swap
This thread is a bit old but a bit of info for people. The referred (for capacitor info) Japan page is gone but was captured by the Wayback Machine. If you use Chrome browser it will machine translate the captured page to your preferred language.
http://web.archive.org/web/200804130...?date=20040912 A bit hard to understand but hey it is a machine translation and my Japanese is a lot worse (i.e. zero). |
