Perhaps your timing was off (belt jumped 1 or more teeth)

I'm not sure how ethical this is..but I found it... 1992 Subaru SVX service manual in PDF form...
I downloaded them all and put them on a DVD.

here's the link.. follow it at your own risk.

The root URL is An Anime Community but type /svx at the back...and you get the PDFs....

again...not sure of the legality...so you go there at your own risk.
Thanks for that link. I've been looking for something like that for years.

If I had been half smart instead of half fast (say it out loud) I would have checked that before I removed the belt...

Oh well.... next time...

Re: Waterpump, Timing belt, replace

I noticed that I didn't say how I secured the crankshaft when I re-tightened the crank pulley nut.... When I was changing the magneto on my scooter I made a tool for holding the pulley... figured it would work on this too..... I was right...

Here's a picture of the tool.

I'm glad someone noticed

I copied them onto a DVD... I doubt they would take up much server space.... if someone would like to make them a sticky? I can load them ...somewhere.... just point me

Re: Waterpump, Timing belt, replace

All back together and running... After leaving the SVX sit for damn near a year it's hard to explain the joy of feeling it again... even the loud rear bearing doesn't bother me right now.... Do have an interesting CEL thing going on... It had been coming on intermittently before the timing belt, water pump replacement.... then the first day ...starting the car maybe 20 times... no CEL.... The next day..it came on the 2nd time I started the car and remained on the whole day... starting the car maybe 7 times. Yesterday... no CEL...started the car at least 10 times....
so....my next post will be in the CEL instruction thread..... I'll search a bit harder this time.

Re: Waterpump, Timing belt, replace

Checking codes is super easy. Search, it's been explained in tons of threads, many times over the years.

Re: Waterpump, Timing belt, replace

Ok.... CEL codes 23, Air Flow meter, or Circuit... engine runs very smoothly right now..
code 29 Crank angle sensor (this doesn't sound good)
code 34 EGR Solenoid or Circuit hmmm (EGR behind INTAKE MANIFOLD....me not happy)

Any suggestions OTHER than a sticky pad over the CEL?

Edit: someone should have taken me up on my bet that it was an O2 SENSOR

Re: Waterpump, Timing belt, replace

Allllll righty then..... Cleaned the MAF (special maf spray cleaner... at Reilly 2.68 )
followed the wire to the connector on the Crank angle sensor... wow...wires were cracked touching and pretty much borked.

Then pulled all the fuel injector connectors sprayed them with the SPECIAL MAF spray cleaner (Reilly 2.68 ) pulled the MAF connector hosed it down... resprayed the MAF again...really hosed that sucker down.... cleaned the wire mesh ... now it sparkles
I'm pretty sure the MAF strip is clean too...

Then... I noticed that my head light covers had gone all frosty again... so I polished them up with my rubbing compound
BEFORE

After:

Went for a short drive... Cleared the CEL per the instructions...and now...only have 34 code....EGR valve or circuit... but the car ran GREAT!!!!

Re: Waterpump, Timing belt, replace

Replaced the antenna mast and motor yesterday..(broke it driving though some bushes )
Perhaps that's the end of summer repair on the car. The EGR solenoid / circuit code is still coming on. Not too worried about that... unless someone can tell me that it will be causing problems down the line. after hearing about the many people that have bypassed the EGR valve, I can't imagine it doing much more than sending the CEL light a mention every once in a while... but I'm open to comment.
I'm pleased that the car is running so well right now... and I hope that doesn't jinx me Next project ... Car has an intermittent wobble in the front at about 65 MPH... thought it might be an unbalanced wheel...but now I'm thinking suspension... as it wobbles just a bit more when turning right at speed.
Comments?
