What is that noise???
I listen to talk radio and all of a sudden constant static started happening. Constant, meaning any time the radio is on in my car. I didn't think much about it at first, just thought it was probably something the liberals had cooked up so we will stop listening to the station Rush is on.
When I got where I was going to pick up my wife, My Magellan said "you have arrived", (I love that). I stopped the car and turned the ignition switch to accessory, Radio was clear as a bell. Started the engine back up and static was there again. Only when the motor is running. Just started that a couple of days ago. What is broken now?? Any body know?? Thanks, Keith |

Re: What is that noise???
either a ground wire came loose or your radio went kaput ( but since it works we know that this is not the case )if a ground came loose or a wire rubbed through then it could cause this static. it is probably feedback from the motor. it sounds like a ground came loose and it is grounding thru the antenna it can cause this unhealthy problem and does it cause static with radio off?

Re: What is that noise???
Is your rear defroster on? Part of the rear defroster grid is a radio antenna.
Is it a white noise/static type noise, or is it more of a whine that changes with the engine speed? Your radio filter capacitor could have gone kaput as well, or perhaps a ground for the antenna? That would cause electrical interference to work it's way into the radio, and AM is pretty susceptible to interference. Then again, it could be the liberals. My radio at work seems to get staticy around 3pm when Michael Savage is on... (And my town has NO shortage of whiny liberals...)

It doesn't seem to change the change in rpm Where would I find that capacitor? That is what it sounds like to me. That would explain the absence of static when the motor isn't running on accessory.. I guess I could try it with the ignition switch turned on to run and not start the car might narrow it a bit more? Thanks all! Keith |
