1992 Teal/ex-SVXxx26/SVXphile

Year: 1992

Model: LS-L

VIN: JF1CX3538NH102898

Manufacture date: 6/91

Paint Color: Dark Teal

Interior Color: Gray leather

Miles: 78,478

Options: all

AWD or FWD: AWD

Modifications: 4.44 transmission, chrome silver SVX hood ornament. Subaru 6-disk CD head unit (2003).

Major service: none except for transmission replacement. Spark plugs, drive belts and timing belts were all replaced at 60,000. Replaced power steering pump.

Engine Condition: excellent

Maintenance Records: have all records since 5/96

Transmission condition: good

Glass condition: good (glass is tinted)

Type of tire and remaining tread: Sumitomo HTR+ 225/45R17 *70%

Type of wheels: Rota Boost 17” – good condition/ a few nicks

Interior condition: excellent

Body condition: excellent

Known defects or problems: 1. Cigarette lighter socket currently not functional – suspect bad lighter. I have new replacement lighter socket. 2. Cruise switch can be sticky. Cruise is operational.

Comments about the car: I bought this car in October 2010 and it has been under a car cover, under a carport since. Prior to this is was owned by svxxx26 since May, 1996. Always garaged while he owned it and, to his knowledge, was always garaged since new.

The interior is in new condition. The wear that is noticeable at all is on the driver's seat, and it is no more than well broken in - no rips or tears. Carpeting is like new, always protected. Rear seat has rarely been used. The original radio/cassette was replaced with a 6-disk unit from an Outback. There is no rust anywhere - the car was only driven in winter once and may have been exposed to salt a few times since and always well-flushed each time.

All fluids have been changed regularly. The oil has been changed more often than necessary and I have used Mobil 1 5W30 only. Likewise the front/rear diffs have Mobil 1 75W90. Paint condition is very good to excellent. There was some damage to the front fender and it was replaced and the hood wand upper half of the passenger door repainted by previous owner. The paint matches as perfectly as is possible. A few small dents were removed after I bought it.

Of course there are a few small nicks and chips here and there, a small scratch on the windshield from grit getting under the wiper. as with any car that is driven on the road but overall the look is like new.

Svxfiles installed the 4:44 transmission after the original started having issues in March 2007. It had just over 60,000 on the odometer then. He also did the "$15.00/15-minute mod" and installed a modified dropping resistor (firmer shifts). Adjusted mileage due to gear ration difference is about 78,500.
I had a rebuilt power steering pump installed in November 2010. Tie rod ends replaced May 2011.

I would say that this is probably one of the better 1992 SVXs you will find anywhere. I know I have done as much as I could to keep it in like new condition.

Asking price: $4,900.00

Photos: All taken September, 2010. If there is anything you want a better view of let me know and I will try to get you a picture ASAP.

Re: 1992 Teal/ex-SVXxx26/SVXphile

This is one of the best deals to come along in a very long time.

The first time I saw this car was at the original Snowshoe Meet in 2001. I have seen this car many times since, and as recently as last September.

Jerry was almost as anal as I was when it came to taking care of this car. If it need it, it was replaced immediately. This car has baerly aged in over a decade.

It went through the JDM phase (chrome grille, clear corners, etc) the 18" Lexus rims etc., and then back to stock. Since Don bought it, he has tried to preserve Jerry's legacy in maintaining this car to that high standard.

As stated, this car really needs nothing; only 18K on the belts, timing belt and plugs. The 4:44 swap was done by svxfiles along with other preventative maintenance at the same time. I also believe it has new rotors all around (Brembos in front)

This one should definitely stay in the family. There is a possibility that Don may bring the car to Reading this year.

Here are some recent photos. The JDM chrome grille is gone and the waterfall is back in.

Re: 1992 Teal/ex-SVXxx26/SVXphile

Meeting with Don and Jean today a bit north of Asheville, NC to "seal the deal" for the Teal. Appreciate the feedback from you members I reached out to for some information/feedback on his SVX.

Dealing with Don has been a pleasure. Taking the camera along to document the event and gala lunch.

Got the Mequire's car wash, clay, cleaner wax, and Collinite 845 ready to go even though the paint job per Don is prime already....will be more for me to bond with the car !!

Back with a SVX after a 10 year hiatus...

Craig,

Blue Ridge Mtns, NC

Re: 1992 Teal/ex-SVXxx26/SVXphile

My "first" wife with Don and Jean Addington outside the restaurant in Weaverville, NC where the handover occurred. Couldn't be happier with how things went and this SVX will stay in our family for the duration. Nice 50 minute drive home for in the rain..4+ hours for Don/Jean...already got my projects planned..cigar lighter dead so looked up my post from 2001 when Randy gave me some advice on how to get to the bugger when I first got my other '92...history repeats itself. Hope I can convince the Addington's to revisit or us head up there.

Re: 1992 Teal/ex-SVXxx26/SVXphile

Pushing 4 months since I picked up the SVX...new rotors and pads all the way around, AFPR, StrongFlex ft/rr swaybar bushings (yellows), Power Mod, braided brakelines, 18" rims with BFG R1's for the dry, summer days..Ecsta MX's for the rest.

Knew when I sold my 92 Pearlie in 2001 it was a big mistake..took me 12 years to get back the feel that this Subaru gives..my other cars, past and present, just don't have the GT feel this has...well, the closest would be a Porsche 928 S4, comparable in a lot of ways but I never bonded with it for some reason like I did/do with the SVX. Despite claims the 928 had exceptional handling at speed, it always felt "rubbery" to me, like it was riding on snow tires when pushed.

You sure did buy a good one. Glad you got that old feeling back. Going on 6 years of ownership for me on this Liquid Silver.
