Engine dies when warm and at low RPMs while coasting.
I have had a problem with my engine dying while coasting.
Engine is warmed up, and I am coasting on a slight decline, or in preparation to stop at a distant red light signal. The engine approaches idle, and suddenly dies, and I am driving with no power. After I stop at the light or pull over, I have no problem restarting the engine ... but it idles at a very low speed, and will stall again afterwards if I don't keep the rpm up a bit. The idiot light code indicates my right-side O2 sensor is dead ... I have one on order. Is there anything else I should be looking at? |

Right now there isn't enough data to make a reasoned decision beyond what you've been shown, you could spend a lot of money throwing random money after could be's or might be's. If the diagnostics say O2 sensor, then believe it. It might not be right, but I'd put more faith in that than the diagnosis of some person hundreds or thousands of miles away equipped with only a cloudy crystal ball. If you want a random guess, then let me pitch in with a fuel filter - at least it's not expensive

OK then ... I'll swap the O2 sensor out, and see if the problem goes away.

Good.
Don't buy the fuel filter, it's probably a dumb idea Gather evidence, then act. Thinking is the cheapest, and the best thing that you can do right now.

Do you ever have a hard time getting the car to start?

Me say MAF sensor is acting funkie. Have a spare lying around or someone with an SVX in the area that will lend you theirs for a spell?

The O2 sensor is already ordered.
No problems starting car. I'll try the MAF after I swap the O2 sensor out. |

Ive never seen an 02 cause that sort of problem
Im wondering too if its the mass air or maybe even possibly that coolant temp sensor or maybe even a tps.

Well ... the mystery cleared up.
Apparently I was dealing with dying alternator syndrome ... putting the vehicle in neutral and restarting was temporarily kicking my voltage regulator back into usefulness. A few nights ago, I got Christmas Lights ... yep. Replaced alternator and battery ... so far no replication of the problem. |
