headlight electrical snafu...HELP!!!

Over the past year a couple things...first, the PS hi beam wasn't getting power and it seemed to be in the wiring bundle so took power off the DR side hi beam and all worked well. Occasional the hi's wouldn't come but a wiggle of the relay would put things right. Now...lo beams stopped..I saw 12V at each connector with low's ON but bulbs (tested OK) when inserted wouldn't light ??? All my grounds as far as I can tell test great. Messed a bit and now the DR lo beam works as do the Hi's/fogs but PS lo out despite seeing 12V at the connector..even hooked up a new pigtail connector but no go. A new developmwnt is the blue hi beam dash light is out after working in reverse (On for lo's, off for Hi's) for a while. 12V at the 2 15amp fuses and the 3 relays..the 2 flattish ones at the inner end of the box and the more square one on the front row.

Is this all a product of the inner workings of the engine compartment fuse box being bugger up?

All of you with Electrical degrees feel free to hop in.

Cheers

Re: headlight electrical snafu...HELP!!!

Did you try to change the relay?

How long have you had your SVX? When you first got it, was it doing this already?

If you decide to try another set of headlights, here is the link.

The lights worked fine before they were pulled from a 96.

Good luck.

I would be interested in the headlight relays if you go them....

Re: headlight electrical snafu...HELP!!!

This is probably completely unrelated but last year I had a few problems with my headlights cutting out, it turned out my alternator was going bad.

Re: headlight electrical snafu...HELP!!!

Certainly an idea but in view of the fact I've now got hi's/fogs to work and ONE lo beam...hmmm. Will check alternator output..was OK the last time but with hi beam dash light acting wierd could be an alternator intermittent weirdness.

Re: headlight electrical snafu...HELP!!!

Looks like I've got 12 V to that one connector but little to no amps/flow..will show 12 V on a multimeter but will not light up a test light. Rather than try and track down the wiring will take 12V off the working low beam and pass over to the other.

Re: headlight electrical snafu...HELP!!!

I am now the proud owner of a 100% cobbled headlight system, bimodal, I might add. I can use the OEM low beams after I took the power off the good side and used it to power up the other side that had the "short" in it's cable. I have also reset up my low beam HID system (waiting for new bulbs) so I can plug in the "good" low beam connector to the HID main cable. Liberal use of fuse holders and relays in all of the above to avoid a meltdown....Let There Be Light!
