ANYBODY know how to get into a locked SVX???

I am an idiot.

I'm doing my car audio install, and I get out to go inside and get a drill.

I close the door and walk inside... leaving my keys and my phone in the floorboard.

I forget when I do this that the door has locked itself, as there is no door panel on the door and the lock button has fallen, locking all the doors on the car.

I am so pissed.

Anybody know a trick to get into one of these things, short of calling a locksmith or the dealer?

As I said, my phone is in the car and I only use the cell, no land line.

Update... I can't get a coat hangar into the door... all the seals are tighter than Fort Knox. Nice to have a quiet car, and I know it's gotta be hard to steal...

Break the window? hehe sorry...

Dont you have a spare set of keys?

I would get a ride to the dealer and have them cut a key from your vin... That is the only thing I can think of.

BWAHAHAHAHA I GOT IT!!!

Hehe, man I just got creative.

If anybody wants to know how to steal one of these things, too bad. The knowledge dies with me.

Edit: Glad I was too late in posting....BTW, how does one delete a post when it's obviously OBE?

I've had the doors apart several times working on my door locks. It would be tough, but a stiff wire could be fished around inside there. Not sure which would be easiest to get to: an oval tab off the pin from the lock motor/actuator and trying to push or pull (sorry don't remember); or try to grab one of the connectors at those long rods and move (not sure which way) to get the system to open. Would take me a long time I think, and I can visual where all the parts are at.

Maybe locksmith or dealer time.

The easy way is to pry the door open from the top enough to wedge it open then insert flexable rod with hook on end to pull up on door lock unlocking the doods. only pull the door enough to get the rod end. you dont' want to break the glass, but it is fairly flexable. Ive' since carry two spares one in the lunch box and the other in my wallet.

After breaking my only key in half, I learnt a nice hard lesson. I have 4 extra keys for my car. one in my wallet, one in the keychain, One in the mailbox chain at home and one in my desk drawer at home.

Significant Technical Input
I keep one locked inside the car. Mainly because I know I can always get in somehow. The way to go in without destroying the seals is to go between the window glass and the door at the bottom edge. Use small wedges there, if handy. I've got a number of tools to get in, my favorite is a deep vee rod that dives below the window and comes up on the other side of the glass and inside of the door trim. The part that sticks up is an inverted vee and will reach down and catch lock buttons, power switches, etc.

If all else fails Toyota prints in many of its owner's manuals to "pick the smallest window, it's probably the least expensive to replace."

When I broke my key like Lwin, I called in my VIN to a local dealer near me (when I was out of town) and they cut one for me. They told me that if I had the key number, that a lock smith could cut a key using it. Something to think about.

I have a proper SVX ! All I have to do is enter my PIN using the door handle and like magic the door opens. Very handy when my wife and I are out shopping, have gone separate ways and the one without the keys wants to get into the car.

Hey Lwin, how long before you or someone else gets that feature installed on their SVX here?

how did your doors lock themselves?

on mine (and all other subarus tmk) even if the door is locked when you close the door, if you don't hold the handle out from the outside they unlock themselves anyway

Really? Never heard of that feature. I know the new cars won't allow you to lock the door with it open...

On my car if you push down the lock button on the door (slider) and then close the door, it's locked like Fort Knox.

If you use the central locking button, they will unlock themselves for about 1 second after a 30 second delay, and then relock. I guess that gives you a quick opportunity to get back inside if you realize you've locked your keys!

Yea, my boyfriend's XT6 does that. I find it annoying, but I guess it's because of reasons like this that they made it that way.
