LOOK...my search is over!

http://finalDetail.com/home.asp

I bought mine from QVC.com, and I used it for the first time the other night ... I couldn't believe my eyes. This is the BOMB! My search is over! I threw away all the expensive car polishes I bought in the past. Today, I was driving a mirror-like finished car, just like it came out of a showroom. I could imagine my SVX must look this gorgeous when it was brand new a decade ago. It took me only about 20 minutes and my car was amazingly bright and shiny.

I mentioned this on the thread "I Love this Car", but I love to share this with the rest of my family in this network. I can't wait for you guys to try this product.

Who knows, maybe the "four car buffs" are chemists Can you only buy this stuff online or on QVC? I'd also be curious to see how long it lasts. McGuires (I think that's the company) makes an awesome show polish that makes the car look wet and lustrous beyonf belief but it does not really protect for c**p and doesn't last past one rain. I'd love to find something to use before the true winter season starts that will get me into spring before the next waxing. Let us know how it holds up, Viv

Viv,

Thanks for the info. QVC is only about 20 minutes from me.

Maybe we could all have a meet there. I vote for the car & cooking show. They always give food samples to the audience.

I contacted QVC. The car wax is on back order and I am "wait listed. They will call me when they get it.

Thanks

Larry III
PS: Maybe I can us some of this stuff to to "Finally Detail" the top of my head.

I ordered from QVC as well, and am waitlisted, but when I saw Viv's post and the link to the product, I ordered it from them direct. I want to try it, and don't want to wait until next Spring. They mention QVC on their site, and it indicates that they will not have another show on the product until next spring when the weather gets good again - when most people think about waxing their cars.

Here is my Caressa after the 3rd day waxed with Final Details. She looks so wet, it's hard to capture her in the camera, too much reflections. The Claret and Black color turned darker and richer. It worked so well on her windows too.

My neighbor was washing his car this morning. I asked him if I could test this wax on his old faded car. This is the trunk of a 1988 Toyota Camry. He was so shocked how the color changed. Anyway, I felt bad leaving his car without waxing the whole thing. At least I put a smile on somebody's face today. I can't do anything with the scratches that was already there.

Did you leave his trunk that way? LOL Or did you finish his trunk and he has the nicest looking trunk around.

I have used a product by Turtle Wax that is color matched. It is remarkable in getting the scratches out. I waxed over the scratches a couple times and they dissapeared. This over the top might really do a great job. It comes in white, red, blue, cream, green, and black. It is very easy to apply and wipe off as well.

Viv, will you wax mine up? after the seven hours i spent detailing the car a month ago, that wax you're talking about may save my back. i can't imagine it will do as good a job as a full paint cleaner/glaze/wax job, but i think laziness is starting to overcome pickiness at this point.

Fools rush in...

I realize I'm expressing what is basically just my opinion, but I have a couple of issues with the recommendations in this thread. Give a read, then like you would with any other opinion, file this appropriately.

First to the Turtle Wax color product. Probably good on a simple paint scheme with light scratches. Think twice before putting it on anything with a clearcoat. Saw a black car (w/clearcoat of course) once done with the TW product. It looked good at certain angles, but at other angles one could see the "scratch filling" action of the product sitting on top of the clearcoat. Probably OK at night, but during daylight most any angle makes it pretty ugly.

Second, the product that started this thread. Based on the photo of the trunk I would bet this product has a heavy chemical cleansing capability or contains some abrasive compounds. Have to be careful using it because other similar products (like Nu-Finish) take off a bit of your paint each time you wax - need it or not - and IMHO, cleansers/abrasives should be used only when no other avenue is available.

Finally, if none of this scared you, need to know if the product has any silicones. Silicone can do a good job at what you've seen; however, it then creates a nightmare for refinishing when you've worn away the clearcoat. Want to test this? Spray some silicone lubricant on a scrap piece of metal. Wipe it good and dry, then spray paint the same spot - watch what it does. Silicone will get down into the places where your car panels meet and ruin any repaint job.

Now the really dumb part - my opinion of how to take care of your finish. First clean it really well with a strong dish detergent, i.e., Dawn. Then get your hands on a claybar product (Autozone has one for $10) and use it according to directions. If the surface is in bad shape you may have to do some polishing, but hopefully not. Then move on to either a wax or polymer coat. There are many strong opinions here. I use a polymer coating as it lasts about 6 months but lacks the "depth" of a good wax job (which lasts about 4 weeks using the same scale of protection). If you have scratches/swirl marks then maybe stick to a glaze and wax. This admittedly isn't as easy a process, but I think like many things, your labor is a case of "getting what you paid for".

Now before you ask, I will admit my paint looks terrible, but then I bought the car that way - looks like it followed a sand & gravel truck across the country. But I still followed the routine because I know it gives protection without making the issue any worse.

So, Lee; give us your opinion on the Hot Wax treatment at car washes. I always wondered why people wanted to wax over the dirt scum always left by these machines.

Ron.

first, Dawn dishwashing liquid is WAY too harsh to be using on a car's paint. second, here is a good read regarding clay bars and why they're probably not a good idea to use for the purpose of "paint cleaning before waxing":

http://www.carcareonline.com/overspray_clays.html

i do agree that this QVC wax may have abrasives, or silicone and if so, should probably be avoided. i do have the Turtle wax "black wax", but i only use it on the lower front portion of the car (under the bumper to hide chips.) it doesn't do a good job on the larger portions of paint, is really hard to buff off, and completely ruins your rags, too.
