5 or 6 speed swap...anyone still doing this for hire?

I'm thinking of swapping, but not sure if I want to do it myself. Anyone still providing this service? In or near TX preferred.

How much to get it done?

Re: 5 or 6 speed swap...anyone still doing this for hire?

It's a long way from all of you but I had a guy in Bozeman, Montana do my 5 speed swap. It's an '05 WRX tranny. It's not cheap; you'd probably end up spending $3500-$4500, but you'd have to talk to him. Also, you'll need patience. It doesn't happen over night. He definitely knows what he's doing. It's been over a year for mine and that was his second swap. I posted about it on both forums. Best money I've spent on my SVX so far.

Re: 5 or 6 speed swap...anyone still doing this for hire?

I agree. If something happened to this on I would do a 5 speed or maybe a 6 speed on my next one. You have the Sabaru in your right? So I guess it is holding up fine.

Yeah, Saabaru, same exact as the WRX. Holding up great, so far. And fun. So much fun pushing that tach.

Re: 5 or 6 speed swap...anyone still doing this for hire?

I agree.

Having driven 5-speed conversions (with both hydraulic and cable-operated clutches) as well as a 6-speed, the 5-speed manual suits my driving style the best.

No one ever regretted doing this swap. No one.

Makes the car feel like its 1,000 lbs. lighter.

Re: 5 or 6 speed swap...anyone still doing this for hire?

I took my car to a mechanic because it was skipping and shutting off . Turned out to be MAF. Well he cured the stall. But when I got it back it still ran sluggish. I took it back and he said it felt fine to him it's a Subaru . I said check the coils it feels like it is running on 4. Picked it up. He found loose spark plugs. ( what up with that , not the 1st time I heard that on here) he gives the keys to me and says WOW now I know why you were not happy. That runs like a 327 vet.
