Center console totally unresponsive

I have no fan, no heat, no vent, no beepy noise, no climate control, no clock, and no lighter outlet.

Now, this stuff didn't just give out on its own, this was caused by an impact.

See pics for visual.

So I have this GPS unit which has been defunct for a while. It shorted out one night when my autostart was not working and I kept attempting to start it.

Anyway, so it's an expensive paperweight, and the reason I keep it on the windshield is because it just happens to block sunlight in a problematic area.

So the suction seal is apparently not too great and it has fallen down a few times.
I noticed recently that my cig outlet was a bit wobbly. I keep a voltmeter in there just because and my knee touches it. I thought that was why.

Tonight I went in to my car to find it has fallen yet again, the cig outlet is more wobbly, and in fact I can pull it out.

Not a huge deal, I thought, until I started and left the garage. Some of the console lights had become dim and NONE of the functions were available. The clock and he outlet and everything in between are just not responding.

Unless I can figure out how to fix this I am totally ****ed. I can't leave the car parked outside because ice will collect, and well, you know, it's Alaska in the dead of winter.

Help?

Re: Center console totally unresponsive

Have you checked the fuses? Maybe the wires that go to the back of the cigarette lighter are touching or grounding on something. If you can pull it all the way out, are the wires still attached? If not, I am sure that would be your problem.

Only one of the fuses was broken from what I can see, and it brought back my mirrors and clock. It was the top left-most 20A, labeled as lighter/mirror. Still no climate controls.
I will see if I can tear the lighter apart but I have no idea what it is supposed to look like under there. It doesn't come all the way out, only as far as the previous picture shows.

Also in the pic, can anyone tell me how to remove that yellow covering for the SRS fuse?

Re: Center console totally unresponsive

This is unrelated but does anyone else have an issue with the doors locking by themselves? Luckily I had to open my trunk with the key otherwise it would have been in the ignition...
I was also lucky to have the hood popped since it seems the locks force close when the power is on. I couldn't turn the key in the door (so I tried the trunk hoping for a way in, whoops, supertones go nuts) until after I pulled the negative cable. Might be time for a new security system...

Re: Center console totally unresponsive

Do you have light in the climacontrol area. Just verry low light?

I have had exactly the same problem 2 times. The first time it just start agin. And i dont think about it more. But right before this summer it happen agin. And i also tok out the wiring from the cig liht. But this dont help at all.

The problem on mine car is the clok. Take out the wiring on this and try again. Maybe it helps. =)

Re: Center console totally unresponsive

I'll be darned, climate control is back. I wonder if it has something to do with the battery being disconnected. Still have to pull the lighter.
Still love this car. C:

Turns out you are correct. The lighter wire is shorting out the entire console.
..which in turn blows the cig fuse.

Re: Center console totally unresponsive

Yeah the same thing happened to me, the Cig lighter can short out the whole thing. With small hands its an easy fix. Mine came off the whole way and was a pain to get back on. Not the best design for the thing.

I only spent about 20 minutes on it but I have no idea how the thing is supposed to come apart.

Yeah the Cig lighter is a PITA to remove. You will have to remove the entire dash piece to find that POS stuck to it with 2 screws from below.

Just fix the wirings in a safe manner and move on
