Lightbulb My refurbbed Keyfob... (thanks CorSVXette)

*Refurbed even....

So CorSVXette was kind enough to send me an alarm keyfob (quite a while back, thanks!) that was a'bit beaten up with no front label. Nothing like a little Faux Stone to accompany some Faux Suede :

Laminated the label for what it's worth. Paint wasn't perfect but the best I could do considering how thick the it is. I was going to experiment with the leather paint but decided to try this instead....

I figured a few clear coats would help the beating on the keychain but so far that hasn't proven very effective with the paint slowly chipping in places after about a month....

(I have no idea why I chose a power button for the alarm button when doing the label... but it's a done deal so no going back now )

Nissan key? I took a few things apart in the SVX and saw Nissan wiring everywhere. Didn't know they shared the same base key design too, lol.

Yeah they do. I have a 91 nissan 240sx that I can use my SVX key to start. Good thing too, because that 240 key is almost snapped in half

The Keyfob looks amazing. I really don't like the ones that Subaru used for the SVX cause it looks prehistoric. But what was done here looks really nice!

Well...... this is a Wal*Mart replica . $1.00 backup keys can go a long way!
(I learn easy from others mistakes of losing car keys and spending upward to $160 for a locksmith to come out and rescue them...)

$160 key with instant rebate of $159.00

Re: My refurbbed Keyfob... (thanks CorSVXette)

I was looking for this for like 2 hours! I remembered seeing it a long time ago but couldn't remember who posted it. My fob has a big hole in it so I want to do something like this..

I litterally had to search the forums, with no luck, I turned to . After simply typing: "svx keyfob" the first image to show up was this one. I followed the link and made it to a flickr account that had yet another familiar picture.. It was one from 1986Nate's recent meet. Eventually I looked for the member who posted the pic from the meet and I wound up right where I wanted to be.

Nice job subix but how about a detailed write up and list of materials? If you recall them.

Seriously, You can always get a keylessride remote.

They are smaller, lighter, better constructed and more water-resistant (I accidentally sent one through the washing machine) I haven't broken one yet.

......

Available on ebay for about $24.00. Type in "Subaru SVX remote" or buy them directly from Keylessride.com for $39.00

The two-button remote does the same as the single button. You can use either button to lock and unlock. I always order the single button.

They also have a different design for the same price.

......

.

They program exactly as the factory remotes and work great and have better range. I am saving my pristine factory remotes for posterity.

Re: My refurbbed Keyfob... (thanks CorSVXette)

Interesting timing, that this got dug out from the past just as I finished a recent project. The result wasn't as handsome as the one in the first post, but I'm happy with it.

The keyfob I got with my car was pretty beat, specfically the label which had a huge hole in it. I bought a used SVX fob on eBay, which looked okay in the pics but turned out to have the corners worn down to almost nothing; 3 of the 4 brass inserts were exposed and 2 of them spun freely in their holes. But the label was good. I took both of them apart, including label removal which really isn't hard, and combined the good bits into one decent enough keyfob. I took the remaining mess and, with the help of a bit of patience and some Gorilla Glue, now have a usable-if-gnarly-looking backup fob. New batteries in each, I'm good to go!

I have a pair of those too, made from a well worn non-OE key that the car came with. Luckily both of the new ones I had made do work fine.

I think I may need another security fob, though... one is good, but I keep having to shuffle keychains for it, and mine has the plastic broken away from the screw thread inserts, and is missing two of the four screws. I had to put a battery in it, for it to work anyway.

Anybody got a good source for a new one, or a compatible alternate one? EDIT - sorry, I didn't read far enough down the thread to see some more info.

I would get a new one but my girlfriend got me this one and I like it. I just wanted to kind of fix it up like the one here.

Re: My refurbbed Keyfob... (thanks CorSVXette)

After about 6 months, the paint on this did start chipping off pretty bad and didn't last very long. Of course, I'm pretty rough on my keys and everything that goes with it gets beat down, dropped, tossed, beat.

Shortly after the plastic piece for the button eventually snapped (due to hard pressing because the keyfob itself seemed to be having issues from time to time) and I finally went with the keyless ride job. It works well and is an ideal replacement, even if I don't care too much for either design, it works and is solid.
