a fresh new exhaust idea(kind of)

alright, this will create some problems, and possibly haveing to cut into the cabin, but heres my exhaust idea. dont have pics or anything, but you should get the point. theres no performance gains from a standard full exhaust people do, it sould be the same, but be a nice different idea. basically run the short resonators in place of the pre cats, into a 2 in 1 out cat, then out to a long resonator, into either a) a y pipe to a muffler to a pipe that is run to a exit in the middle of the qtr panel directly in front of the rear tire(like alot of the jgtc or super gt or whatever its called cars) or b) a 1in 2 out muffler, where the outlets are both on one side, then split them to either side of the car, same idea off the middle of the quarter panel, well, more lower, exiting just in front of the rear tires, probably have a problem with the side skirt. or instead of dual exits, run only 1 side exit. other thing is, the actual exit is a 1 in 2 out pipe that has a ring and bracket around the 2 out part, that circles the outlet. that actually bolts to your car, wherever there is a flat surface. i cant find pics, it was in a jc whitney a while back, but cant find it online. anyhow, i think power gains would be the same as the normal 2 resonators, to 2in 1 out cat, to a resonator, then a high flow muffler, but just look different, unque. any thoughts? or a different place to mount the exhaust exits?

Since when are there no performance gains from the standard header-back designs people do?

bad idea, unless you like the look and smell of melting plastic.Plus, your exhaust would run precariously close to the fuel tank, as well as set fire to the rear seats. I cant think of a single scenario where it fits, and doesnt cause problems.

Even if you got it to work, there'd be the exhaust holes in your rear bumper....

Read your post twice and all I can think of is 'WHY?'. Am I or others missing your point? The SVX isn't a Mustang, f-body or truck, and yes I can read your dribble w/o translation.

theres no performance gains from a standard performance exhaust people do, as in theres no performance gains useing that as a benchmark, sorry. i have a problem with doing that, and cramming everything together

yeah, ive spent almost all of my time in the milw area and have NEVER seen a mustang or f-body with that style side exit, even on hwy 100, which is where all the rice boys and mustang and basically allthe younger car crowd go fri and sat nights. ive seen them where they have it under the rocker, but never mounted in the body. i do know they make them for trucks, but if its about it being for f-bodies, mustangs, and trucks, ive seen more then plenty of jgtc/gt live supras, skylines, 350z's, mr-s, and basically every japanese 2 door with that setup.

the bracket is made to not let the heat melt the plastics, or whatever it is mounted to. as for performance, i meant it will be the same as a performance exhaust system done the normal way. didnt think of the gas tank problem though. maybe a single side exit then. as for the rear bumper, im very ingenuitive(sp?), so id find a way to take care of that, beleive me.

btw, i dont have rear seats. or an interior for that matter.

well, thats interesting, every comment left for me was bashing, or in responce to the "no power gains misunderstanding" nothing else? gah.

it seems no one finds this idea overly appealing. well, despite all of this, im goin to have a look inside the car, and see if it can be done, ive got some ideas. to all you that say it cant be done, your all tuning a car that cant be tuned according to many. get my drift?

im going to make a template, and put it on the car, just to seehow it looks. ill post pics, but that wont be for a week or three, things are busy. at least have a look at a rough idea before you say no

I just re-read your original post again, and I do not understand how that is different, except for the side exhaust.
I did not bash anything and hope that you do not think that I did.
I have an exhaust that alot of people can not understand.
Thats ok, I understand that most people feel thatCHANGE IS BAD!!!
The only thing that I do not see is that how your exhaust is different, except for the side exhaust.
Its your car.

Just do not run an exhaust through the interior, if thats what you are planning.
Tom

Whatever you decide, just take some pics for us and tell us how it turns out. My exhaust isn't traditional on any of my vehicles, but with one exception doing something different and doing it rite can yield some great results. Good luck.

as it turns out, the rear windows are in the way, the roll up ones i mean. i just thought itd look kind of neat, and wouldnt have any performance losses compared to a rear exit one. honestly, the gains would probably be exactly the same. but im not going to cut the body on my car, that would be much to difficult, and god knows whats type of wiring i have running around in that area of the car.

the ohter reason i wanted to do this was, it would be dirt cheap when it came to actual bending pipe and such, it would roughly be the price of the muffler(s), resonators, and exhaust exits, plus a few dollars in pipe. but the custom work would offset that, and probably make it more expensive im still going to rig up a template to see how it looks though. i personally love the look of the skylines and an awd converted fto with that exhaust. the car is going to be used as a daily driver, but only on rainy days, and bad weather days, or days when ihave a passanger, as the rear seat will come off the bike when i finally pay it off and take delivery, so realistically, the svx is a fun enjoy the spirited driving car, and if i have left over money after a race school, and bike track days, it will be used for auto-x when its done. thats why the interior is comeing out. well, most of it. im kind of broke. so saving even 100 dollars in exhaust work is a lifesaver to me. but i do want to get the exhaust done, so thats why i was contemplating this.

Is it still kinda crummy, having your birthday and christmas so close together at your age, Tom? I'll only be 24, and I'm already sick of it.

gah, no!!! i mean there is no performance gain in my exhaust idea compared to the header back idea, as in the gains from my idea compared to the header back would be the same, but compared to stock, its more power.

dang, im confusing myself now!! ummmm, alright the side exit and header back exhaust will most likely produce the same gains, thats why i say that my idea wont be any better then a standard upgraded exhaust. now even im confused!!!!

hey, dont stress about b-days. i was raised a jehovas witness, and didnt even celebrate my b-day till year before last for the first time!! and im 24 right now!!
