sounds like you really want a Legacy Spec-B. a Porsche 944(NA)/968 might also fit the bill as well. the S2000 is a girl's car.

If your pocket allows get the G35. I got stupid in one and it was hella fun. But, being in that price range opt for a M3. Those are the most predictable cars I have ever driven. You get it slideways and it will work it all out for you.

In my opinion, cars such as the 350Z, Miata, S2000, Audi TT should never be bought. They are freaking tight, and you get really fed up driving it each day.
I think the G35 is Ok tho. Also these cars have issues with clearance I really miss my SVX

I think I'm leaning towards just not considering anything for a while and just continue with my svx. It just needs a few more things to modernize it which shouldnt be too bad.
Maybe I'm just too picky. I liked the way the G35 performed, I didn't feel at home in it. I would consider BMW except at my age I want to stay away from costly parts and repair. I originally wanted a 944 Turbo. Maybe I'll just wait a few more years to snag a Caymen S

I know you stated specifically, "not boy racerish" but you really ought to drive an Elise b4 getting into an S2000.

if you want to stay away from costly parts and repair, a Cayman isn't going to be the car you want. you'll need a lift to change the oil, and around 15 quarts of synthetic. i'd still like a Cayman, though. 944 turbos are great cars, but unless it was properly cared for, they can be $$$$$$. i recommended a non-turbo 944 because you said you weren't interested in 1/4 mile times, but they are definitely fun to drive with the awesome handling and braking. they are fairly cheap, too, so you will have money left over for repairs, audio upgrades, and other mods.
