Radiator Hose

Blew a radiator host tonight without using my new radiator. Stopped at a store and saw steam comming up from under the hood. I opened it and saw that it was coolant. I grabbed the big hose and squeezed it and out squirted some coolant. I will let it cool tonight and then replace the hose tomorrow. I am glad I wasn't too far from home.

Does clamps come with your hoses or are the OEM clamps sufficient? I'm trying to fill my head with as much info as possible and things are just running together. Seems like i was reading a thread about using a certain clamp on the silicone hoses...

From what I have read (mostly in the aluminum radiator thread) Don't use the stock clamps with the silicone hoses, there are two other types of clamps that have been used, one is a T-clamp, and I don't remember the other off hand, but it's in the thread.


edit: iirc, clamps don't come with the hoses, but Im sure Dayle would be happy to sell you those as well!.

for what its worth you can order T clamps for 6$ a piece from roadrace engineering.. (www.roadraceengineering.com) and other clamps that RRE says work just as well for 3$ apiece. RRE is a very well established DSM company, with a GREAT reputation.

What you don't read is WHY not to use the stock clamps. I'm still waiting for that answer.

I'm using one stock clamp and 3 cheap screw style clamps without a problem.

Yes I'd like to know this aswell. The stock clamps are better in many aspects than screw type clamps that eat up the hoses

Okay, i'm confused. First, T-clamps are basically the "ultimate" hose clamp. they don't destroy the hoses at all.

the screw type are actually decent, i don't like the clamp type but thats just a personal pref

I tried the stock clamps, and was afraid they might tear the material as I tightened them up & they disappeared into the hose. Read about the T-bar clamps, but settled on some Constant Torque Clamps from Parts Systems. They include a protective inner band to protect the hose finish from being shredded, while maintaining constant torque throughout the temperature range.
