First post - Greetings to everyone ^_^

Greetings fellow SVX'ers. It's been a long arduous journey, but I'm finally a registered member of your awesome community here.

Last fall I returned from three years of teaching English in Japan and while in my hometown of Portland, Oregon, went about getting myself a vehicle. It had been so long since I owned a car that I wasn't really sure what I wanted. I was fond of the idea of something convertible or with an open top and found myself looking at a lot of del-Sol's and briefly toyed around with the idea of a Nissan Z but everything was either too expensive or just didn't grab me right.

While driving around in my rental car I happened to see a sleek looking car on the road with funny windows and immediately remembered, "Oh yeah, I've always liked the look of those. Maybe I should check some of those out."

Boy am I glad I did, one test drive and I was in love with our funny-windowed, little cars. I eventually found the SVX that would become mine and then packed it up and proceeded to drive cross-country to my current home in Charleston, South Carolina.

Tragedy struck while passing through Houston though. While on the freeway in the middle of the city, suddenly the Goodwill truck in front of me suddenly bailed into the center lane (I was in the left lane), revealing a curved piece of black something in the road. There was no shoulder on the left, only a concrete divider, and a longbed truck in the lane to my right. The mystery object seemed to be a piece of shredded tire, so with no hope of escape, I tried to get as far over in the lane as I could and simply run over as little of it as I could... too bad it wasn't a shredded tire. 'Twas a black #*&$ing shovel. My front tire ran over the flat end of the shovel, catapulting the shovel into the driver side of my "new" SVX's body just behind the rear window. I was crushed, my shiny new SVX, not even in my possession for two weeks had a two-foot long gash in the side and I was barely halfway across the country.

The rest of the story is boring; I eventually arrived in SC, the SVX got fixed and all is right with the world. Even met forum member Shadowyng on a local highway.

So to sum it all up, I've been meaning to register forever and after driving across the US, smashing my car up with a shovel and meeting a member, finally have. Greetings. (I've also attached a few pics of the SVX that brought me to this group).

Pleasure meeting you all!

welcome Skottie

Hey Skottie - Welcome to the family! Bummer about the shovel, but at least you were okay, and the car was fixable. Pretty car! Green was my second choice if i couldn't find one in ebony. I would love to drive mine cross-country. I'm sure i will some day. Lots of real knowledgeable people on this board, so don't be shy with the questions. Best of luck with the SVX. Marc

Welcome to the SVX World Network forum, my SVX has tiny miniscule pockmarks all over the hood and top of the car plus a little indentation in the back, but that still doesn't compare to the indentation you had. Its good to hear that it got fixed though, I wonder at what cost?

Even though you can't really see my dents unless you are a bit close and see little spirals in the reflection, I am interested in getting it fixed at some time, but removing the tiny hail marks (since they are barely dents) would be hard to do on top. Or is there anybody here who knows what would be needed to remove dents that are on the sun roof and all over other pars of the top, not to mention some on the side of the hood.

hajimama****e < guess the system won't even let you write some Japanese

Kinda had the same route in getting my first SVX. Saw one in Hawaii in '93 but was soon to be transfered to Japan. Had to put it off for 8 years and finally got one in January.

My particular bill to repair the dent, the molding along the bottom near the wheel well (where the shovel sliced a section clean off) and repainting was $800. Could have been worse I suppose, but not the happiest moment of the trip, for sure.

As much as I'd like to claim that I had the chutzpah to take a photo of my speedometer while driving that fast, I have to admit that it is in fact photoshopped. It helps me sleep at night though to remember that I actually did get it close to that speed while on the desert straightaways of Nevada and Arizona, so it's only a half-lie really.
