uni joints , yes thats right they can be replaced ;)

me and dad still have to do some investigating with the drive shaft that snapped to see if they can be relatively easily changed (remove staked ones and machine a spot for the circlip) on an oem shaft ,

but the one i got out of my first svx had replaceable uni's in it already
the parts are ruj1786 or ruj1786r (stronger)

they are quite cheap to buy of ebay.com.au

im not sure what the part would be called over in the states or other countries (possibly the same) i cant find a cross reference chart with it on it

but im sure there would be one the same for other model cars

I had this done in our 92 Ebony, but could never get the shaft balanced correctly. It caused an oil leak from the shaft seal, although there was not an obvious vibration.

Re: uni joints , yes thats right they can be replaced ;)

Recently I sent a SVX driveshaft to "a place in Illinois".
They said that replacing staked U-Joints would not be a problem.
Their price was fair, and the turn around time was good.
However the driveshaft now had a very bad vibration.

I believe that the driveshaft has been returned to the company for them to fix it.
It will be a while before I can reinstall it again.
When I do, I will post more information.

BTW, when I, figgured out that the rebuilt driveshaft was bad I took another driveshaft to our local driveshaft rebuilders.
They would not touch it.

Re: uni joints , yes thats right they can be replaced ;)

Maybe the vibration was caused by unis not quite the right size?
Probably extremely close but not quite.
The ones that were in the first svx's shaft were the ones i posted .
do you guys know what the ones you put/had put in yours are ?

Mine felt fine too. Started with a vibration, no leaks though. Just a leak that would not stop from the tail shaft. Replaced tail shaft seal. Still leaking. Rebuilt entire output section. Still leaking. Put in another used drive shaft. Still working without leaking 3 years later.
I hope you have better luck than I did!!!

was it leaking from the slip join bit in the middle ?
my dad actually had to repair that bit it was oval instead of round
and it was leaking before we even put in on the car , so he used some form of silicone stuff to "hope" it provides enough of a seal

i will be getting a 5 speed swap as soon as i get my tax cheque
so i shouldn,t be driving with it on for very long

Hi,
The ATF fluid was leaking out of the transmission tail-shaft, where the driveshaft enters.

ah ok , i looked for that when i started it for the first time after replacing it and havent seen any leaking so far (also the yoke on this tail shaft doesn't have that dust cover skirt thingy tacked onto it ) but i will be sure to keep an eye on the fluid level
