Window Regulator replacement info?
Hello. I'm going to replace the broken Window Regulator assy (drivers side) and wondered if there is a "how-to" or any good pictures illustrating how to remove & replace one? Looked pretty extensively but didn't see anything that was very helpful. In particular, removing the assembly seems to necessitate taking the window out also? Hoping that step isn't required. Thanks!! Zane

You don't need to remove the assembly or the window. Just remove the door panel and peel back the polythene. You will see the assembly and the drive wire. The regulator is the little plastic clip that joins the drive wire to the assembly.
You just have to slip the regulator over the barrel on the wire and clip it into place on the assembly. You can pull the wire or slide the assembly until they line up for you. It's a really easy job. Nothing to worry about. There's a photo in this thread that might give you some idea. http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/showthread.php?t=34424

I probably used a poor description of what needs replacing. It's the entire window mechanism with the drum that spools the cable in and out with the motor attached. Also has the long, curved track-like attached. The little clip will be easy after I get the assembly in but that's where I'm stuck. It really acts like the window needs to be out before I can push the already loosened assembly off the door. Anybody know about replacing this item? Thanks!!

The window has to come out to replace the regulator. It's not as bad as it looks. Once you pull out the trim and the little pads you'll have alot more room to work with. When I did mine I left the window bolted to the part that fits in the rail (the part you clip the sleeve lock regulator to) - I slid the whole thing out the top and then slid the old one into the new regulator rail after mounting it. It's been a long time since I did it.
