Wtb -

I just replaced my valve cover gaskets and one of the cylinder head plugs has disappeared into my garage's black hole (the place where all nuts and bolts that you drop on the floor go when you look for them and can't find them).

The plug is the aluminum half moon shaped disk (two per head) that fits into the camshaft bores machined into the rear of each cylinder head (firewall side). Attached is the subaruparts.com drawing.

The part I need is:
09 $4.61 Plug-cylinder head 19-
$4.61 Plug-cylinder head -18

Let me know if you have one - each motor comes with four.

Thanks for looking

you'd be better off bying them at a dealer because of shipping and such

Talk to YT. I just helped him move to the new shop, and he has lots of little nuts and bolts.

My initial thoughts exactly - except this clearly won't be a stock item at just about every Subaru dealer in the US, which means that they'll order it from Subaru warehouse which means that if I order one tomorrow, dealer might have it by Thursday - Friday.

I was hoping that someone had one on hand and could mail it tomorrow. The sooner I get it, the less I have to pay Avis. I'm calling my dealer first thing in the morning in any event just in case they have one laying around.

My dealership can get stuff the next day, you just have to pay shipping on it, since (at least here) Subaru doesn't have a daily parts shipment like Toyota does, but since were only 60 miles from the warehouse, it doesn't take long to get stuff.

As soon as the dealer opens, I'm going to ask for expedited shipping since the rental car is around $30 a day all in (including tax) - that should cover the extra cost.

Tom,

Thanks for looking just the same. My local dealer (Earl Duff) had one in stock - only because it is the same for all recent subaru motors. Unfortunatley, the aluminum ones used on the EG33 have beed superceded by the plastic one. Good ole Duff's doesn't give discounts on parts so I paid full retail of $9.90 (They cost hjalf that at subaruparts.com but you have to pay for freight). If I'm lucky, my missing aluminum plug is probably resting on the frame rail just inches away from valve cover. If I find it, I'll reuse it.

I'll take part of tomorrow off to get the work done seeing how Knoxville is breaking high temp records and it will be a perfect day to work in the garage. Yesterday it was almost 80 degrees. Today and tomorrow, it's supposed to be in the mid - upper 70's and partly cloudy. Hard to believe that there's freezing rain just a few hundred miles to the north and west of us.
