Significant Technical Input
I'm sure the bogging down with the nos on is what caused the immediate catastrophic failure but to me it looks like that engine was on the way out before the nos was ever engaged. What I see when i look at those pictures...........

1) combustion chamber and exhaust ports in blown cyllinder have no carbon deposits
2) corrosion on head indicating head gasted has been bad for some time

To me it looks like that cyllinder has had coolant in it for a while. Actually it looks like all of them have but that one was the worst. If i were to guess I'd say that cyllinder got flooded and washed out then blewy.

There she blows.!!!!!!

Shows how strong the rods are. Yes loading the engine at low rpms with boost or gas will cause massive detonation. The ECU can't pull the spark back enought to stop it. The intense heat has melted the exhaust valve stems, dropping them into the piston, followed by a compleat loss of money. Sorry mate, I reckon you need a controler to bring on the gas, in tune with rpms, and some sodium filled valves.

Harvey.

Well when I get around to posting the other pics you will see what happend. Cyl 4 would have looked like cyl 3 but the valves must not have been open when it ripped the wrist pin out of the bottom of the piston. The piston was sitting just at the top in about 5 pieces, barly held together by the mangled rings. the whole lower half was gone, and it cracked the cylinder wall on that one too. I guess there is a reson the RPMs should be up before you engage. It's still kinda funny how it took out both middle cylinders

Trust me Lan the motor was in tip top shape befor, the cylinders are so clean becouse of the big cracks in the liners letting coolant pore in.

I'm guessing it was probly running on the 4 good cylinders the rest of the way untill I pushed the clutch in to shift and it died. The biggest reason the piston from cylinder 3 looked so bad was becouse it was getting smacked around or awile, cly 4 just broke and came to a stop right befor the valves.

Whoa Jesse,

Well, a non-interferance engine, most of the time!

Amazing, the cylinder wall cracked all the way through, from those little flying saucers no doubt.

WAS THE CRANK HURT? Was that rod big end still on the crank? If so, save the crank for me, will ya? I've got some experimenting to do myself.

And the busted head could be good for some flow bench experimentation, on the two good cylinders. Hang on to it if you can. Can't afford to waste good heads for flow experiments.

Yes, 700 rpms to 7000 rpms to 0 rpms, all in a flash. But it was fun while the tires were spinning

Tom, I guess you should sell those head gaskets to Jesse. He has proven himself worthy. Not to many out there can say they 'smoked' the competition with an SVX engine. I've only blown one engine in my time, not as much fun as this one though.

We all learn from this. Bring on the 'dedicated' engine.

Oh, LAN, I know you are reading along, the compressed thickness of the SVX head gasket appears to be .065.

I don't really know what happend and all I could hear was the AutoXer next to me spining tire and throwing rocks around in it's wheel wells. I never heard the motor pop.

Well Jesse I have been doing a lot of thinking about what I wanna do with the car latly and I have made pretty solid yet wise decision. For the sake of my entire driveline I will not be utilizing the stage 2. If I will run nitrous I will be purchasing a 75 dry kit with a bumped fpr for safety sake. I realize that dropping transmissions and swapping them out isn't that much fun. So... this tells me that my extra motor is your's for the taking if u want to pick it up on the 2nd. PM me if you are still inerested(it comes with a shiny new set of headgaskets ) I will be saving my money that would have been spent on a shelf full of 4.11 5mt for a 6mt. I want the car to be in superb shape before I wanna go fast...just needed to get my priorites straight. So shoot me a pm and we can work out the details.

Tom

Well Jesse, It seems like you did quite a good job on testing the limits. I am still trying to figure out how the hell mine crapped out.... I am at such a loss about that.
